Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Trainee:

MAJOR FUNCTION:

The purpose of this position is to help prepare the employee for Florida Department of Environmental Protection certification as a Wastewater Plant Operator "C" through learning the fundamentals of wastewater treatment plant operations. After instruction and orientation, the employee will be expected to carry-out routine duties as performed by a Wastewater Plant Operator.

Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator I:

MAJOR FUNCTION:

This is manual and mechanical operation of a water reclamation treatment facility. Although the operator has some maintenance responsibilities, those responsibilities are secondary to the theoretical operational control of the plant. Duties are performed on an assigned shift under the guidance of a supervisor or other operator holding a higher license. Work is reviewed through inspection and by observing the effectiveness of plant operations through the review of shift reports and chemical laboratory tests. The employee is expected to understand the fundamentals and learn the more advanced wastewater treatment plant operations which helps to prepare the incumbent for certification as a Wastewater Plant Operator "B."

Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator II:

MAJOR FUNCTION:

The Class "B" Operators perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled work related to the operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment plant, as well as some administrative duties while working on an assigned shift. The Class "B" Operator will perform duties with a broader scope of authority and be expected to exercise greater problem solving and independent decision making skills than a Class "C" Operator. Work is reviewed through inspection and by observing the effectiveness of plant operations through the review of shift reports and chemical laboratory tests. The employee will be expected to carry out routine duties, as performed by a Wastewater Plant Operator, and through understanding and performing more advanced wastewater treatment plant operations as the incumbent prepares for certification as a Wastewater Plant Operator "A."

Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator III:

MAJOR FUNCTION:

The Class "A" Operators perform a variety of skilled and skilled and complex work related to the operation and maintenance of an Advanced Wastewater Treatment (AWT) plant, as well as some administrative duties while working on an assigned shift. The Class "A" Operator will perform duties with a broader scope of authority and be expected to exercise greater independent problem solving and decision-making skills than a Class "B" Operator. Work is reviewed through inspection and by observing the effectiveness of plant operations through the review of shift reports and chemical laboratory tests. Training and learning acquired as a Class "A" Operator help to prepare the incumbent for a supervisory role in the operations of a wastewater treatment plant.

Minimum Training and Experience

Possession of a high school diploma or an equivalent recognized certificate. Studies should have included courses in basic mathematics and chemistry.

Necessary Special Requirements

Applicant must be at least eighteen years of age.

Must obtain a Florida Department of Environmental Protection Class "C" Wastewater Plant Operator's Certificate within two years of date of employment in this job class.

Must possess a valid Class E State driver's license at the time of appointment.

Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator I:

Minimum Training and Experience

Possession of a high school diploma or an equivalent recognized certificate and one year of experience in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater plant. Studies should have included courses in basic mathematics and chemistry.

Necessary Special Requirements

Applicant must be at least eighteen years of age.

Must possess and maintain a Florida Department of Environmental Protection Class C Wastewater Plant Operator's Certificate.

Must possess and maintain a valid class E State driver's license as a condition for continued employment.

Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator II:

Minimum Training and Experience

Possession of a high school diploma or an equivalent recognized certificate and two years of experience in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater plant. Studies should have included courses in basic mathematics and chemistry.

Necessary Special Requirements

Applicant must be at least eighteen years of age.

Must possess and maintain a Florida Department of Environmental Protection Class B Wastewater Plant Operator's Certificate.

Must possess and maintain a valid class E State driver's license as a condition for continued employment.

Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator III:

Minimum Training and Experience

Possession of a high school diploma or an equivalent recognized certificate and four years of experience in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater plant. Studies should have included courses in basic mathematics and chemistry.

Necessary Special Requirements

Applicant must be at least eighteen years of age.

Must possess and maintain a Florida Department of Environmental Protection Class "A" Wastewater Plant Operator's Certificate.

Must possess and maintain a valid class E State driver's license as a condition for continued employment.

Salary Range

$12.8517 to $54.2594/hourly.

Additional Information

12-hour shifts with rotating days and nights.
