Under the direction of the Information Technology Supervisor II, the Information Technology Specialist I:
  • Performs planning, development, implementation, monitoring, maintenance, administration, and support of Departmental Intranet and Extranet websites; provides direct support of the web-based needs of the Department, including site-wide updates, redesigns, document conversions and creation; responds to technical questions; independently solves a wide array of web-based problems and reports problems and solutions to the Information Technology Supervisor II. Tools and platforms used to support departmental sites may include, but are not limited to, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, WordPress, and Microsoft SharePoint. Performs web programming using HTML, JavaScript, JQuery, and PHP.
  • Acts as project leader on various IT initiatives and departmental web-based requests. Applies web accessibility standards and compliance. Develops and implements new accessibility standards and best practices. Keeps program branch staff informed of new web policies and posting procedures through trainings and user guides. Administers and oversees various web and content-based tools; develops, analyzes, and troubleshoots complex issues within these tools and leads implementation efforts alongside the Information Technology Supervisor II. Provides project management and analysis on Web related projects.

Working Conditions
  • Performance of these duties requires the use of computers, infrastructure hardware, networks, databases, electronic mail (both internal and external), voicemail, and the Internet.
  • May occasionally work evening or weekend hours in response to system outages/recovery, maintenance, or upgrade activities.
  • Occasional statewide travel on short notice may be required to support regional office locations. Travel may require overnight stays, driving, and flying.
Note : This position may be eligible for hybrid telework under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria set forth in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework.   • Knowledge with web accessibility (Section 508 and WCAG 2.2)
