This position will play a critical role in furthering the mission of the Delta Stewardship Council's Delta Science Program of providing the best possible unbiased scientific information to inform water and environmental decision-making in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta (Delta). Duties focus on multiple core functions of the Delta Science Program, including science funding, collaborative science, and peer review. The incumbent will play a critical role in developing metrics and tracking the outcomes of research funded by the Delta Science Program and communicating research outcomes to strengthen the connection between science and management. Working at the Delta Stewardship Council's Delta Science Program as an Environmental Scientist or Senior Environmental Scientist, also offers the incumbent the opportunity to collaborate with scientists, engineers, community groups, tribes, and decision makers and facilitate critical independent scientific peer review panels for the Delta science community.

    Working Conditions

    This position is being considered for hybrid telework (with a 2-day per week minimum in office schedule) under California Government Code Section 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California. The position is based out of the Council's headquarters, located at 715 P Steet, Sacramento, CA, 95814.

    Department Information The Delta Reform Act of 2009 created the Delta Stewardship Council (Council). The mission of the Council is to achieve the coequal goals of "...providing a more reliable water supply for California and protecting restoring and enhancing the Delta ecosystem... in a manner that protects and enhances the unique cultural, recreational, natural resource, and agricultural values of the Delta as an evolving place" (CA Water Code SS 85054). To do this, the Council developed the Delta Plan, which is an enforceable long-term sustainable management plan for the Delta to ensure coordinated action at the federal, state, and local levels.
