2025 Internship - Mechanical Design Engineer (Research & Development)

J OB SUMMARY:

The Interiors Research and Development Intern position is responsible for originating , researching and developing ideas into designs that support the existing and new aircraft development process. Candidate is required to perform duties in support the interior design of the aircraft such as design research, human factors layout, physical mock-up development, 3D computer modeling, software development, coordination with other technical groups, status reporting to supervisors, and presentation of conceptual designs to audiences inside and outside of Textron Aviation.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Generate and build concepts for innovative products and features based on provided criteria
• Plan and participate in ideation exercises, engineering research, design, development and manufacturing including other methods the team may discover to develop a successful team project
• Collaborate with engineering, advanced interior design, industrial design, technical groups , suppliers and others to develop, implement, monitor and status the progress of a given project
• Develop and integrate software to demonstrate R&D concepts
• The candidate will research and develop concepts and work with Industrial Design, Interior Advanced Design Engineering and Human Factors Engineering to develop detail designs of human factors within aircraft
• Use market research, customer experience, analysis of competitive designs, trends, human factors layout and physical mock-ups to evaluate conceptual designs.
• Develop 3D geometry using CATIA modeling software and evaluate design ideas based on appearance, functional design, serviceability, manufacturing methods, materials and production costs

EDUCATION /EXPERIENCE :

Pursuing Bachelor's Degree in one or more of the following fields :

• Engineering
• Industrial Design
• Other related technical field

QUALIFICATIONS :

• Professional and diplomatic demeanor
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Collaborates and easily gets along in team-based environments
• Software skills in Android OS, Apple iOS, HTML, Python and/or C++ is beneficial
• Software skil ls in CATIA is beneficial
• Previous professional experience thr ough an internship or Co - op is beneficial

Applicants must be authorized to work lawfully in the U.S. for Textron Aviation at the time of making application, and visa sponsorship is not available for this position, including for F-1 students and J-1 exchange visitors who will need employment sponsorship.

Summer internships are 40 hours per week typically from late-May to early-August lasting 10 weeks .

Candidates must be able to work onsite for the entirety of the internship program unless approved otherwise by the hiring manager.
