Position Summary

This position provides academic advisement for College of Public Health majors.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Knowledge of the fields of public health. Familiar with university degree requirements and academic advisement procedures. Ability to interpret academic transcripts and student records, clearly communicate degree requirements and options, plan programs of study, propose solutions to academic problems and discuss possible careers with students. Skilled in oral/written communication. Possess good interpersonal relations and patience in working with students. Ability to appropriately schedule time and organize records. Word processing and data-base management using Microsoft Office; ability to use student information systems; knowledge of e-mail, internet and other software used by a University.

Sit or stand for long periods of time, lift up to 25 pounds. Driving as needed to complete job tasks.

Duties/Responsibilities

Advises students in planning a UGA program of study. Meets with students to recommend courses for the next semester, prepare advising forms, answer student questions, direct students to resources on campus.

Percentage of time 60
Duties/Responsibilities

Administrative Time: Answers student and staff emails, schedule meetings and networking opportunities and work on projects to benefit the advising office. A high level of independent work is expected.

Develops and maintains advisement files and data management via computer programs. Answer student questions during open office hours.

Assists students who are having academic difficulties. Completes graduation check sheets in consultation with students.
