The Virginia Department of Health Professions (DHP) mission is to ensure safe and competent patient care by licensing health professionals, enforcing standards of practice, and providing information to health care practitioners and the public.

The Deputy Director assists in directing the activities of the Administrative Proceedings Division to ensure that cases are adjudicated in accordance with the Administrative Process Act and other applicable laws.

Minimum Qualifications

Comprehensive knowledge of legal principles, practices, processes, and research methods.
Comprehensive knowledge of the regulatory process.
Comprehensive knowledge of the Administrative Process Act and the legal system.
Demonstrated ability to interview witnesses and present evidence at formal legal inquiries.
Demonstrated ability to analyze complex and diverse data.
Demonstrated ability to prepare legal documents and supplemental case reports.
Demonstrated ability to manage others and coordinate program goals involving priorities.
Demonstrated ability to function as a leader of professional staff.
Excellent communication skills.

Additional Considerations

Considerable experience in public administration or in a regulatory or legal environment.
Considerable experience in judicial or quasi-judicial systems and administrative hearings.
Considerable experience in conducting legal research and writing legal summaries and opinions.
