Position Summary

The Air Management Specialist position completes ambient air monitoring activities to assess air quality (related to human health and welfare standards) as required by the Clean Air Act (CAA) Amendments. This position is responsible for following the procedures outlined in the CAA, Quality Management Plan (QMP), Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs), and Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPPs) to operate the equipment that collects ambient air monitoring data and ensure the timely collection of valid ambient air monitoring data.

An understanding of environmental science and air monitoring equipment theory of operation is critical to meet the needs of this position. Specific air monitoring networks which this position will be responsible for operating include, but are not limited to, criteria pollutant, BioWatch and the urban air toxics program. This position performs duties under limited supervision and must use considerable independent judgment in performing the work activities necessary to achieve monitoring goals.

Salary Information

Starting pay is between $29.00 - $34.00 per hour in pay schedule and range 15-04.

Pay on appointment will follow the provisions of the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan.

This position includes an excellent benefits package, including health care, vacation, sick leave, and retirement benefits. A 12-month probationary period may be required.

Job Details

The Air Management Specialist will have a regional office space in Milwaukee, but is responsible for operation and maintenance of sites throughout their designated region of Wisconsin, and expected to travel regularly within that region. At times, the position will require travel to other portions of the state, to meet with other members of the statewide team. Limited telework may be available on an as needed basis with permission from the Monitoring Staff Supervisor.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Qualifications marked with an asterisk (*) below will be evaluated in the first step of the selection process. Additional qualifications may be evaluated in subsequent steps.

You need to have the following experience:
  • *Collecting environmental samples or auditing environmental sampling equipment in a classroom or training environment.
  • *Experience or training in chemistry, biochemistry, physics, biology, meteorology, or other natural science related to Air Management.
  • Problem solving and/or troubleshooting technical or mechanical issues.
  • Knowledge of Quality Control and Quality Assurance.
  • Collaborating on a team or group of peers to achieve a common goal.
Any of the following experience would be nice to have :
  • *Collecting environmental samples or auditing environmental sampling equipment in a professional work setting.
  • *Maintaining and troubleshooting electro-mechanical equipment, electronics, and networking equipment in a professional work setting.
  • * Collecting or auditing environmental samples in the field.

Special Requirement: Must hold a valid driver's license and be able to meet and maintain standards for driving a state vehicle, according to fleet management policies.
