The DOJ, Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), is looking for highly motivated and talented individuals to join our team. DOJ is currently recruiting for a Records/Forms Management Specialist to join the Administrative Operations Bureau. This position may be headquartered in any of the DCI Field Offices (Appleton, Eau Claire, Madison, Milwaukee, or Wausau). DCI positions are not eligible for remote work.

This position is eligible for bilingual opportunities and may require the ability to read, write and/or speak fluently in English and any one of the following languages: Spanish, Hmong, Tribal, and/or American Sign Language (ASL).

Position Summary

This position performs duties supporting DOJ's public records program. This position provides support to DCI's Administrative Operations Bureau and DOJ's Office of Open Government in managing the release of records and documents.

The position is knowledgeable in criminal case records management and may recommend alternatives to management for courses of action related to fulfilling record requests. The position responsibilities include coordinating records intake, reviewing records and making necessary redactions in accordance with standards and procedures, and drafting recommendations for approval or denial of release of criminal investigative records.

This position provides technical assistance and training to others. The scope and complexity of the work includes a wide range among the types of record requests received and the size and content of responsive criminal investigative records, as well as extreme diversity in stakeholder groups. The impact of judgements and decisions made by this position regarding redactions required prior to release of records is significant. This position provides required correspondence to all record requests and may work with multiple media types (e.g., written, reports, visual such as video or pictures, audio) depending on specific assignments.

Salary Information

The Records/Forms Management Specialist position is in pay schedule 07 and pay range 04. The starting pay will be between $25.00 and $34.03/hr. An add-on of up to $1.00/hr. may be available for candidates who are bilingual. Pay for current or former state employees will follow the provisions found in the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan effective at the time of hire. A 12-month probationary period may be required.

Job Details

Occasional in-state travel will be required. Must be eligible to drive when required for travel.

The Department of Justice does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required Employment Eligibility Form I-9.

An extensive background check, including fingerprints, drug screening and psychological evaluation will be completed on all DCI applicants prior to selection.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants must have education, training and/or experience in the following :
  • Using technology to manage electronic media materials, digital records, and information.
  • Compiling, storage, retrieval, retention and protection of records, files, and materials.
  • Public/open records laws.
In addition to the minimum qualifications, a well-qualified applicant must have education, training, and/or experience in the following:
  • Audio/visual technology.
  • Manipulating and/or editing audio visual files using professional software such as Adobe Premier or similar software.
  • Using technology tools to work specifically with large volumes of audio/visual or digital records involving 3 or more record types (audio, video, photos, written documents, email/messaging, etc.).
  • Knowledge of statutes, rules, and law applicable to public/open records.
  • Records management in a government or law enforcement setting.
