The University of Florida College of Medicine Office of Graduate Education seeks nominations and applications for the new position of Assistant Dean for Graduate Student Affairs. This is a 0.20 FTE administrative position reporting to the Associate Dean for Graduate Education. This appointment is anticipated to begin on or after September 2, 2024. The Assistant Dean for Graduate Student Affairs will work as a member of the Office of Graduate Education leadership team. The incumbent will aid the Associate Dean for Graduate Education in developing and executing a strategic vision to advance the College's goals and student affairs and professional development related to graduate education.

About This Role
The Assistant Dean's areas of responsibility include the advancement and implementation of new initiatives in graduate student affairs. The duties include, among others:
Strategic Planning and Initiatives
The Office of Graduate Education (OGE) at the UF College of Medicine is dedicated to fostering academic excellence and professional development for graduate students. OGE offers a comprehensive range of programs, including master's, Ph.D., and combined BS/MS degrees across various disciplines. The office supports students through resources like academic advising, career development, and wellness programs, ensuring a well-rounded educational experience. OGE also collaborates with faculty and industry partners to provide research opportunities and enhance student engagement.

This is a 0.20 FTE (or equivalent) administrative appointment.

About This Role

Strategic Planning and Initiatives
- Participate in the strategic planning for graduate education through engagement in relevant committees.
- Assist the Associate Dean for Graduate Education in the development and ongoing management of new initiatives and roadmaps. Coordinate with appropriate leaders to ensure continued advancement of initiatives.
- Liaise with departments, centers, and institutes on the development and implementation of new initiatives related to graduate student affairs.
- Develop and implement programs and services that support the academic, professional development and wellbeing of graduate students.
- Provide guidance and support to graduate students on academic and non-academic matters, ensuring their overall well-being and success.
- Facilitate workshops, seminars, and events that enhance the graduate student experience and foster a supportive community.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators to address graduate student needs and concerns.
- Liaise with student organizations and groups to ensure their voices are heard and their initiatives are supported.
- Coordinate with other offices and services within the College and University to provide comprehensive professional development and wellness support to graduate students.
- Develop and implement oversight committees and reporting mechanisms for graduate student affairs.
- Present progress and results to the Associate Dean for Graduate Education and other stakeholders as appropriate.
- Assist in the recruitment and retention efforts for graduate students, collaborating with appropriate stakeholders to ensure effective strategies are in place.
- Provide leadership and direction to staff within the Office of Graduate Education.
- Ensure efficient and effective operations of activities within the realm of graduate student affairs.
- Serve as a backup point of contact for the Office of Graduate Education when the Associate Dean is unavailable.
- Chair or Co-Chair of Graduate Student Affairs Committee and liaison to the Academic Programs Coordinator Group.
