Summary

Reporting directly to a Senior Director of Development, the Assistant Director of Development's primary role is to serve as a leadership giving officer, developing and managing a portfolio of current donors and new prospects (individuals, corporations and foundations as appropriate) capable of making a gift of $25K - $100K, that results in philanthropic resources raised on behalf of Baylor College of Medicine (BCM).

The Office of Advancement and Alumni Affairs serves the mission of Baylor College of Medicine, the No. 1-ranked medical school in Texas for research and primary care, the largest recipient in Texas of National Institutes of Health research funding and home to the No. 1-ranked genetics department in the U.S. As part of the OAAA team, you will inspire donors and Baylor alumni to give through a variety of ways to advance the College's priorities across four mission areas: healthcare, education, research and community.

OAAA activities encompass fund development - at all levels up to major gifts - alumni relations, philanthropic communications, corporate relations and volunteer programs. You'll also play a mission-critical role in Baylor's quest to power the future of health, from helping secure funding for cutting-edge cancer research to obtaining scholarships for aspiring physicians, health professionals and scientists. Job Duties

  • Collaboratively works towards the achievement of the annual BCM office fundraising goal.
  • Individually accountable for fundraising productivity, donor engagement and cultivation, solicitation and stewardship, prospect qualification, as well as gift and estate planning metrics.
  • The expectation will be that with a mature portfolio, this position will solicit $1M per year, and secure a minimum of $500,000 per year.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision; effectively and efficiently organize and prioritize workload to meet constantly changing demands; high level of accuracy, attention to detail and strong organizational skills; communicate status of projects to appropriate staff members and/or supervisors in a timely fashion.
  • Collaborates with other Development leaders and Institutional Advancement colleagues to foster the success of their respective programs.
  • Enhances fundraising skills through professional associations and BCM training.

  • Actively practices moves management throughout the donor life cycle of identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
  • Documents all donor related activities using donor database system.
  • Attends donor events and supports prospect engagement strategies as directed.
  • Participates in College-wide development activities as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Two years of relevant experience.


Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Two or more years of experience in fundraising, marketing, sales or related customer service field with a preference in direct fundraising experience in private not for profit.
  • Master's degree in a directly related field such as Nonprofit Leadership/Management, Philanthropy, and/or Fundraising may be considered in lieu of experience.
  • Healthcare/high education experience.
