Job Description
1. Performs all duties of the Director of Nursing in his or her absence.
2. Participates in developing philosophy, objectives, policies and standards of nursing service and education.
3. Assumes responsibility for developing and implementing a staffing plan and directing recruitment and selection of personnel.
4. Develops, plans, coordinates, directs and evaluates assigned projects and programs.
5. Assists the Director in preparation of personnel, supply and equipment budgets for nursing.
6. Assumes responsibility for planning, directing, organizing and evaluating programs of orientation, training and continuing education for nursing personnel.
7. Assumes responsibility for directing the evaluation of personnel performance.
8. Participates in developing and maintaining sound relationships with community, labor and professional groups in developing new nursing programs and policies.
9. Assumes responsibility of day-to-day operations of nursing service.
10. Assesses nursing services by making rounds, conducting chart review and evaluating patient care.
11. Participates in a system of continuing evaluation of nursing service.
12. Participates in implementing an effective system of clinical and administrative nursing records and reports.
13. Updates and maintains required manuals. Participates in research projects as applicable.
14. Participates in operating and procedural committees as assigned.
15. Develop, review, and revise written Policy and Procedure as it relates to Subspecialty Clinics
16. Prepares and reviews staffing plans for all Subspecialty clinics.
17. Ensures timely completion of employee's annual performance evaluation in Peoplesoft, annual skill competencies and department specific training.
18. Reviews and analyzes trends and data pertinent to patient care delivery, initiates performance improvement strategic intervention, and makes appropriate recommendations.
19. Ensure adherence of ICARE Values among staff, patients and families for exemplary patient experience.
20. Resolves conflict among staff in a timely manner with positive outcomes.
21. Collaborate with the Nursing Educator in conducting clinical orientation and annual department-specific training classes for staff.
22. Provide coaching, counseling to staff, and progressive disciplinary referral to HR if needed.
23. Participates in the hiring process of new staff.
24. Provide leadership coverage in the absence of department head and other clinic managers.
25. Monitors staff time and attendance.
26. Conduct regular unit monthly meetings with written agendas with documented minutes.
27. Assures staff compliance with annual mandatories and credentials as required to perform duties.
28. Participates in hospital-wide committees and other external committees to support the vision of the organization.
29. Provide guidance, coaching, and leadership support to enable staff to work together as a team.
30. Develop recognition initiatives to enhance staff engagement and teamwork.
31. Resolves arguments among staff in a timely manner with positive outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State, plus (2) or (3) below.
2. A Master's Degree in Nursing Administration, Education or an equivalent field and a minimum of six years of satisfactory nursing experience, of which four years shall have been in a supervisory, teaching or administrative capacity; or,
3. A Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing and seven years of satisfactory nursing experience, five years of which shall have been in a supervisory or teaching capacity; or,
4. A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience. However, all candidates must be licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State.
