SUMMARY

The Payroll Specialist performs a full range of payroll processing activities, including calculating wage and overtime payments, payroll adjustments, and processing transfers and terminations. The position of Payroll Specialist requires frequent interaction with both internal and external customers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:
  • Preparing and running the payroll processes and reports for all payroll cycles. This includes weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly pay cycles and any special cycle necessary for bonuses, etc.
  • Reviewing the time and attendance system, determining and correcting out-of-balance situations, calculating military and jury duty pay, processing garnishments and levies.
  • Posting changes in the pay and tax status and miscellaneous changes.
  • Entering and setting up miscellaneous deductions and reimbursements, including auctions, logo store transactions, etc.
  • Assisting other payroll department team members during vacations and work overloads as needed. Performing other related duties as assigned.
  • Assisting in testing and implementing enhancements to the HR/Payroll HCM system.
  • Taking on special projects and research as assigned.
  • Learning in-depth federal and state payroll laws.
  • Adapting, documenting, and cross-training to improve processes.
  • Embracing working together as part of the payroll team but also having the motivation to work independently.
  • Having good organizational and interpersonal skills.


QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associate's degree with two to three years of experience, or non-degreed with 5+ years of payroll experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Bilingual in Spanish required

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business directions. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate basic figures and amounts.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Efficient with Advanced Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and OneNote. PeopleSoft and Oracle Fusion experience is beneficial.
