Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is recruiting to fill Advanced level Civil Engineer Transportation positions located in the Division of Transportation System Development (DTSD) office in the Southeast Region.

These full time permanent positions are headquartered in Waukesha at 141 NW Barstow Street.

Position Summary

Below are the current vacancies that Southeast Region is recruiting for. This list will be updated as positions are filled as well as new positions will be added.

Southeast Region (SER) - Waukesha :

Local/Multi Modal Program Engineer - This position is located in the Systems Planning Section of the Southeast Region. The position is responsible for administrative and financial management functions in the development, financial accounting and monitoring of Region Improvement programs. The incumbent has primary responsibility for solicitation, engineering review, and financial oversight of over $63 million annually in state and federally funded local projects in numerous programs.

Work Zone Engineer - This position functions as the Region Work Zone Engineer, collaborating with the traffic supervisor and staff to achieve the goal of safe and efficient work zones. Responsibilities of this Civil Engineer-Advanced include reviewing work zone designs and field implementations as well as monitoring those completed by the Civil Engineer-Senior/Entry position. The Region Work Zone Engineer provides traffic control and traffic management plan guidance and acceptance to WisDOT staff, consultants, and contractors. These stakeholders implement work zones on improvement projects, maintenance projects and utility/development permit work. In addition, the Region Work Zone Engineer participates on statewide committees/teams for determining statewide traffic engineering policy, standards, and guidelines.

Project Development Project Manager - Design focus - These positions manage activities on multiple projects including those of a highly complex nature for continuity in the design phase. The positions perform as a design leader directing major complex projects and assist the team by advising and coaching team members on projects. The essential function of these positions is to act as a project manager in the design of transportation improvement projects. The project manager has primary responsibility for scoping, scheduling, budgeting, and overall project quality.

Project Development Project Manager - Construction focus - These positions function as a Civil Engineer Advanced performing the highest degree of independent discretion and judgment on transportation improvement projects in the construction phase. These positions manages activities on multiple projects including those of a highly complex nature. These positions serve as a resource to the design team for input on plans and specifications. There are multiple construction project manager positions available; one of which will serve as a construction project manager for the upcoming I94 E-W program.

Salary Information

This position is in schedule-range 14-13 with an annual salary of $88,296 - $106,808, plus excellent benefits. A twelve-month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

Job Details

Travel up to 25% of the time may be required.

WisDOT does not sponsor work visas. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant being able to prove valid status to work in the United States.

Certain positions within this Department may allow remote/work from home flexibility for a portion of their work schedule, depending on the needs of the position and the work unit. For permanent positions that allow remote work flexibility, Wisconsin residency is not required. However, it is not anticipated that working outside of Wisconsin (other than bordering cities) will be allowed because positions may at times need to report to office locations in Wisconsin on short notice.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates must have the following at the time of application:
  • A valid Professional Engineering registration and be able to obtain a Wisconsin PE registration within 3 months if PE registration is from another state
