Job Summary:

The Department of Orthopedics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine is seeking a part-time, on-call surgeon in the area of Pediatric Orthopedics to practice at Children's Hospital Colorado-Colorado Springs and the CU Briargate Specialty Clinic for Children in Colorado Springs, Colorado. This position includes membership in the CU Briargate Center, a multispecialty pediatric clinic and CU School of Medicine cost center that includes faculty from multiple departments. The position is not eligible for benefits or tenure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage simple and complex orthopedic traumas, including polytraumas, intra-articular fractures, pelvic fractures, and related reconstructive procedures.
  • Provide attending call coverage and urgent surgical coverage for Colorado Springs Pediatric Orthopedic service.
  • Provide fracture reductions in ER as needed, but not conscious sedation.
  • Provide consultation services to Childrens Hospital Colorado colleagues and outside providers regarding care of orthopedic trauma patients.
  • Obtains detailed history and performs physical examinations on assigned patients; assesses and treats acute/chronic medical problems and provides direct patient care to a specified patient population. Write prescriptions for PT, OT, imaging studies, and DME as needed. Complete FMLA and other forms and school notes as needed (with assistance from office staff).
  • Assists in providing pre-op, intra-op and post-op care; writes appropriate orders, including those for narcotics and other scheduled drugs.
  • Occasionally perform emergency lifesaving procedures in cases such as cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, massive hemorrhage, or similar emergencies.
  • Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods.
  • Writes progress notes on patients' office and hospital charts indicating patient status and treatment procedures performed; maintains other records as required.
  • Provides health education to patients and families
  • Will share telephone, ER and hospital call coverage fairly with physicians. Telephone triage of urgent patients will be a critical function.

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Colorado Springs, CO.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Board certified/board eligible Orthopedic Surgeon
  • Completion of an Orthopedic fellowship
  • Proficient in treatment of pediatric musculoskeletal trauma
  • Active Colorado medical license

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$1,236.00 per 24-hour on call shift (prorated if less than 24 hours). In addition, this role is eligible for 70% of net collections.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
