Location: Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, MD-Hematology Lab

Full Time (40 hours)

Day Shift: 7:00am- 3:30pm

Weekend rotations required

Position Summary:
  • Performs a variety of both routine and complex clinical laboratory tests in accordance with established standards and procedures. These require a professional level of knowledge to properly execute and analyze results, especially where results are abnormal or atypical.
  • Specific duties may vary according to laboratory and shift assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
  • Associates degree as MLT (Medical Lab Technologist) or BS degree in related field (Biology, Chemistry, etc.) with some lab experience/education internship or lab courses /qualifying towards lab certification.
  • Work requires formal education/coursework in biology, chemistry, hematology, immunology, cytogenetics and/or microbiology meeting regulatory requirements for testing. Credits must meet minimum science foundation toward MLT/MT program or certifications.

Work Experience:
  • Completed MLT clinical rotations or MLT internship OR previous experience in a clinical or research laboratory.
  • BS degree with related courses where good lab practices were taught; may also be considered.

Required Licensure, Certification, On-going Training:
  • None required.
  • For this level, certification from ASCP or other department-approved agency is encouraged but not required. CMS allows CLS 1 to perform testing with training/supervision of a CLS 2 or higher.
