The position serves as a Clinician in Emergency Services, a 24-hour mandated service providing triage, crisis intervention, and pre-admission screening evaluations to individuals located in the city of Chesapeake.

Position provides pre-admission screening and crisis intervention to 24-hour Emergency Services unit and the CIT Assessment Center.

Position performs risk assessments to determine the appropriate level of care, utilizing the least restrictive alternative to manage crisis. Advocates for individuals requiring inpatient treatment, crisis stabilization or DETOX services. Requires experience in crisis intervention with populations including serious mental illness, substance abuse and intellectual developmental disabilities. Utilizes DSM -V to diagnose mental health, substance abuse, developmental and other disorders. Clinician must possess knowledge of state mental health status, preadmission screening criteria and the Commitment process.
  • Provides pre-admission screening and crisis intervention to 24-hour Emergency Services unit and the CIT Assessment Center.
  • Performs risk assessments to determine the appropriate level of care using the least restrictive alternative to manage crises. Advocates for individuals requiring inpatient treatment, crisis stabilization or detox service.
  • Consults with magistrate regarding and obtaining TDOs and ECOs to promote safety of individuals and the community. Maintains documentation in electronic health record in compliance with agency quality assurance standards. May provide 30-day crisis interventions to individuals who may require short-term solution focused interventions.
  • Coordinates admissions to hospitals and other outpatient treatment options.
  • Represents CIBH in commitment hearings.
  • Works closely with law enforcement to triage mental health crises in the community.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
VOCATIONAL / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT :
Requires a bachelor's degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or a closely related field or another degree as approved by the Virginia Department of Health Professions

Requires master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Rehabilitation.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT :
In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this position requires a minimum of two years of related, full-time equivalent experience.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES :
  • Requires a valid driver's license a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards.
  • Requires Qualified Mental Health Professional-Adult ( QMHP -A).
  • Pre-Screening Certification within 6 weeks of hire.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT :
Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.

Preferred Qualifications
Supervisee in Social Work or Resident in Counseling or LCSW or LPC .
