General description

Join the Open Records team as a Accounts Examiner! Work involves Responding to a high volume of complex tax and fee-related open records requests. Research and gather information from agency systems and the Secretary of State's Direct Access System. Draft correspondence and account summary information. Assist legal staff with compiling information to be referred to the Office of the Attorney General.

Qualifications:

Education:

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree.

Experience:

  • Experience in a fast-paced, customer service focused environment providing. Some related experience needed.


Preferred Experience:

• Experience in drafting responses to requests from customers;

• Experience with state taxes and fees administered by the Comptroller's Office;

• Experience in handling customer service calls;

• Experience in working with a governmental agency in a team setting.

Substitution:

One year of full-time related experience may substitute for each year of the required education with a maximum of 120 semester hours (four years).

In this role you will:

• Perform research on complex tax and fee-related open records requests, including sales, franchise, motor fuels, mixed beverage, and hotel taxes.

• Use specialized knowledge of the Public Information Act regarding public and confidential information.

• Prepare written responses to tax and fee-related open records.

• Assist legal staff with compiling information for requests referred to the Office of the Attorney General.

• Proof one's own work and the work of co-workers for accuracy.

• Enters and updates open records requests on the FYI tracking system.

• Answers the 1-800 telephone line.

• Assists walk-in customers.

• Does mail outs and checks mail as needed.

• Prepares reports as requires.
