Job Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Under the direction of the Laboratory Manager and Director of Pathology with latitude for the exercise of independent judgement performs moderately difficult and is responsible for various kinds of departmental records

DUTIES &RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Answers a large volume of telephone calls regarding all types of departmental inquiries.
  • Maintains the Laboratory Manager's incoming and outgoing correspondence.
  • Liaison between the Laboratory Manager and employees as well as the trainees of the Pathology Department.
  • Prepare purchase requisitions.
  • Screen phone calls and assume initiative whenever possible, thus enabling the Laboratory Manager to use his/her time for urgent matters regarding patient care.
  • Screen Laboratory Trainee Applicants and process applications.
  • Make certain that all required documentation is submitted by the trainees attached to the application.
  • Prepare personnel requisition forms (PRF).
  • Schedule interviews for prospective lab trainees with the Laboratory Manager, Supervisors, and the Chief of Pathology.
  • Refer trainees to Volunteer's office for processing
  • Pick-up and distribute time sheets and checks to appropriate divisions.
  • Verify overtime justifications prior to submitting to payroll.
  • Maintain employee's personnel files.
  • Order stationery supplies.
  • Preventive maintenance of Office Equipment.
  • Gather data from all Pathology Divisions compile and present to the laboratory Manager for special projects, and reports, and prepare minutes for laboratory meetings.
  • Other duties:
    • Contact city storage and prepare an inventory spreadsheet of the outgoing boxes.
    • Retype policies and procedures and distribute the updated manuals to pathology staff
    • Serve as liaison between the pathology and other departments such as finance, purchasing, and human resources.
    • Monitoring continuing education compliance
    • Monitoring safety knowledge compliance reports


Minimum Qualifications
1. A Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health, Public Administration, Business Administration, Social Work, Psychology or Rehabilitation Counseling; and
2. Two (2) years of full-time experience in medically-oriented health care and medical support systems environment, one (1) year of which included experience in an administrative or supervisory capacity in such occupations as physical, occupational, inhalation, speech and audiology therapy or as Medical/Laboratory Technologist, Microbiologist (various specialties), Chemist (biochemist), Radiation and X-Ray Technician; or two (2) years of responsible level experience in business management systems or general administration including one (1) year in a supervisory or administrative capacity; or
3. A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in disciplines listed in "1" above; and
4. Three (3) years of full-time experience, as described in "2" above, including two (2) years of experience in an administrative or supervisory capacity in occupations, as listed in "2" above; or
5. A satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
