This position is located at the Real-Time Crime Center (RTCC) in Innovation Park.

Responsibilities

  • This position is responsible for providing analytical work while maintaining confidentiality in the review, extraction, analysis, report building and compilation of criminal activities and data.
  • This position will utilize database research techniques to analytically identify, compile, evaluate, predict, and help prevent crime.
  • Analyzes police data and information, providing strategic reviews and interpretation of coded information via a computer computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system, telephone, and multi-channel radio.
  • Requests and receives confidential information.
  • Reviews daily bulletins (BOLO's, teletypes, etc.) and shift reports.
    Works with a variety of sources and transfers information into a computerized form, manipulates and analyzes the date and information.
  • Develops and produces reports to identify the trends, patterns, series, hot spots, and long-term problems in criminal activity.
  • Reviews, extracts, and analyzes reports and other information, and compiles data into local format to provide general or specific intelligence for use in operational planning decisions.
  • Adhere to the standards and principles of the agency's core values and professionally represent the agency.
  • Report to work timely, consistently, and as scheduled. Perform all functions of the job classification without posing a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
  • Ensures high quality data is collected and the integrity of the data is sound.
    Prioritizes intelligence data and determines reliability and validity. Ensures accurate input and updates of data from a variety of sources. Maintains current accurate records.
  • Reads and interprets maps in order to assist in locating certain geographical areas to provide timely assistance and valuable insight into crime.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and two years of experience related to the duties of this position; or a high school diploma/equivalency and six years of related work experience. (Note: a combination of post high school education and experience equal to six years in the same.)
  • Experience must be in criminal intelligence, crime analysis, or military intelligence, or must be similarly analytical in nature. Relevant Experience can be substituted on a year-to-year basis for the required education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with criminal intelligence, crime analysis, military intelligence, or similarly analytical in nature.
  • Ability to research, collect, coordinate, organize, analyze, and prioritize intelligence information while determining reliability and validity.
  • Ability to adhere to the mission of the Florida State University Police Department (FSUPD) and professionally represent the agency and University.
  • Knowledge of applicable computer applications, basic computer functions, data mining, developing criminal history and statistical reports.
  • Ability to prepare and present clear, accurate, concise, reports digitally, verbally, and in writing.
  • Knowledge to formulate violent crime reduction strategies using analyses of intelligence data.
  • Ability to understand quickly and accurately, and follow brief oral and written instructions on complex matters.
