Lead the design, development, and release of automotive seating, interior trim and/or powersport seating products. Work directly with customers, suppliers, and internal multi-functional team to design innovative and valuable products which meet or exceed all requirements and regulations. Support research, business objectives, and problem solving for continuous improvement.

Qualifications/Essential Skills and Experience:
  • Minimum B.S. in Engineering or equivalent (Mechanical, Product Development, etc)
  • Typically, 6+ years' experience with automotive seating or interior trim product design
  • Typically, 3+ years' experience project lead or management
  • Knowledge of safety regulations/standards test setup pertaining to automotive seating and interior products (FMVSS, ECE, DIN, IIHS, etc) .
  • Familiar/efficient with parametric modeling and drafting/annotation in CAD (CATIA V5 preferred)
  • Familiar with performing FEA simulations and interpretation of results
  • Experience with product design for manufacturing (DFM)
  • Experience with project/team schedules (experience with MS Projects is a plus)
  • Proficient on MS PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to travel locally (driving), domestic and/or internationally (air) without restriction (typically less than 10%)

Specific Job Requirements
  • Product Design
    • Understand and break down product requirements to generate and develop optimized concepts for quality, performance, weight, and cost
    • Interface directly with customers to fully understand all technical requirements and deliverables. Support informing the multi-functional team
    • Applies best practices in creating and maintaining product 3D CAD layouts, models, and 2D drawings
    • Checks bill of materials (BOM) and design change documentation for responsible projects
    • Supports design analysis and prediction by kinematics, hand calculations, FEA, multibody dynamics, and statistical variation analysis tools
    • Lead and/or support multi-functional team with Design Failure Modes and Effect Analysis (DFMEA), Design Review Based on Failure Modes (DRBFM) and/or Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) documentation
    • Work with suppliers and manufacturing teams to ensure production feasibility
    • Organizes and supports design in technical reviews with dynamic CAD reviews and reports
    • Monitor the development of all design related issues, tasks, and assignments to insure timely completion
    • Investigate root cause analysis and countermeasure implementation
    • Support internal evaluations with technical documentation, validation results, and presentation as needed
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Seek out the development and proposal of reoccurrence prevention methods
    • Seek out, understand and communicate new or revised regulations and requirements
    • Seek out value added investigations (part, product, process, design improvements)
    • Initiates/supports in the development of new tools, standards, and procedures

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
  • Environmental conditions - Open office environment. May be exposed to moderate noise levels.
  • Vocal Communication - Required to express or exchange ideas by means of concise (clear, correct and timely) discussion with coworkers, customers, suppliers, etc.
  • Hearing Perception - Ability to recognize information at normal spoken levels and/or ability to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or make fine distinctions in sound.

  • Physical Activities - Required to stand, walk and sit, as well as using hands to pick up, handle or feel objects. May occasionally reach with hands and arms. May be required to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
