The Department of Business Services at the University of Virginia (UVA) seeks applications for a Dining Contract Administrator . The Dining Contract Administrator will r eport to the Associate Vice President of Business Services. The Dining Services Contract Administrator is the liaison between the University and its contracted vendor(s) for food services and amenities related to UVA's residential dining, retail dining, c-stores, catering, concessions, and vending. Responsibilities include working with the vendor(s) to realize the vision for dining services and provide direction around programming, strategy, business and fiscal management, facilities, and operations The Dining Services Contract Administrator is responsible for contract management for a program generating more than $47M a year.

Dining Services is one of six operations reporting to the Associate Vice President of Business Services. Consistent with the Business Services mission, the Business Services philosophy is to provide high quality services in a fiscally responsible manner.

The Dining Services Contract Administrator will partner with the contracted vendor to promote a flexible and responsive department that supports students, departmental staff, and members of the University community and works in close collaboration with the Athletics, Housing and Residential Life, Facilities and Real Estate Services, University Events, and other University partners

Accountability For:
  • Oversight of daily dining operations through the contracted vendor.
  • Influencing and directing, through the contracted vendor, University Dining operations including the meal plan program, campus catering, vending, c-stores, concessions, and retail services.
  • Overseeing dining services advisory committees.
  • Ensuring that the food services vendor is adhering to the University's sustainability goals.
  • Ensuring that the vendor promotes wellness and nutrition throughout all outlets On Grounds and through the subcontracted food service vendors.
  • Ensuring that customer service and satisfaction surveys, administered by the contracted vendor, are timely and pertinent and that actions are taken by the vendor to address any issues or concerns.
  • Ensuring that the food service vendor's marketing efforts are on trend and reflective of University priorities.
  • Ensure that that the contracted vendor's catering offerings are regularly evaluated, that catering is of the highest quality and commensurate with University events. Review and approve office coffee offerings and pricing as well as vending offerings and pricing.
  • Ensure that the food service vendor always upholds quality standards, and that safety and sanitation standards are adhered to.
  • Review and approval of annual meal plan structure, rates, summer meal plan rates, hours of service budgets and capital plans.
Work with the contracted food services vendor to:
  • Advance Business Services strategic vision in support of the UVA community, effectively and efficiently manage operations, and maintain financial stability.
  • Strategically evaluate facilities, amenities, technology, and service levels and develop and execute plans to renovate and improve dining assets.
  • Work closely with facilities management, and vendor senior management on capital plans.
  • Partner with Finance, Housing and Residential Life, and Procurement on policies, procedures, and contract management
  • Develop, monitor, and recommend process improvements through KPIs that align with the University's strategic vision while seeking ways to engage the campus community and improve services across all units.
  • Review, analyze, and track dining costs and revenues, achieving short term and long-term goals with a focus on stewardship and accountability for each unit.
Minimum Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree required. A degree in management, hospitality, or related filed preferred.
  • Experience: Five years of job-related experience, or combination of education and relevant experience in increasingly-responsible roles are required. 10 years' experience in leading hospitality or dining in a higher education setting preferred.

  • Demonstrated leadership and strategic planning skills with the ability to conduct short-range and long-range project planning studies.
  • Ability to establish goals, KPIs, and objectives that support Business Services strategic plan.
  • Demonstrated organizational, managerial, budgetary, and financial management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience influencing a diverse group of professional, support and student employees
  • Demonstrated ability to build strategic relations with vendors, colleagues, coworkers, and constituents.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to influence, collaborate and direct, a vendor team to realize goals to constantly improve and demonstrate operational excellence.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a collaborative rapport with university faculty and staff, students, and the public.
  • Ability to organize complex work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives, and exercise independent judgment.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions in a timely manner.
  • Ability to interpret, analyze, and evaluate data with a track record of effectively identifying problems, evaluating alternatives, and implementing innovative and effective solutions.

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

This position is located in Charlottesville, VA.
