The Director, Engineering leads projects and initiatives related to digital emerging technology and developer experience within our global Digital Products competency center. They will maintain the operational effectiveness of the Red Bull App Kit by leading advocacy, ensuring reliability, steering the roadmap, and enforcing standards and best practices. The Director, Engineering is the central point of contact for digital security across the engineering organization horizontally. This involves enhancement in tooling, vendor selection, incident triage, investigation, research, and development. The Director, Engineering will also research and test new platforms to develop on within the space of emerging technology, including but not limited to GenAI. This role maintains a close relationship with counterparts at major technology partners as well as a close relationship with Red Bull's teams in other countries through regular travel and workshops.

  • Software Design and Delivery


    Design and develop modular and reusable component libraries for Red Bull App Kit for use across our global portfolio of applications

    Assess the latest industry trends and new software betas and evaluate and execute appropriate innovation programs across multiple software teams

    Maintain and constantly reevaluate best in class global security standards and practices

    Architect and maintain the deployment, hosting, schema, integrity, and compatibility of client application configurations and environment variables across multiple environments


  • Event Leadership


    Plan and lead global innovation events ("hackathons"), both in-person and virtual

    Plan and lead training sessions relating to digital security and developer productivity tools across the DPUS organization


  • Internal and External Relationships


    Build close working relationships with HQ stakeholders and international partner teams

    Plan, attend, and run international workshops with cross departmental teams in support of initiatives and integrations

    Maintain budgets, invoicing, legal contracts, negotiations, and partnerships with vendors in support of applications development


  • Innovation and Research


    Research and participate in early access software programs with key partners Apple, Google, Amazon, Samsung, Microsoft, Meta, and others

    Use data driven insights to make improvements to applications and run experiments for new best practices

    Contribute to improvements in developer onboarding and offboarding processes and tools

    Coordinate feedback and testing for emerging technology that improves the software development lifecycle across the engineering organization




EXPERIENCE


Your areas of knowledge and expertise

that matter most for this role:

  • 15+ years of experience working in software development
  • 10+ years managing production software applications
  • 7+ years growing and managing large software development teams in fast-paced distributed environments within a growth-oriented organization
  • Strong proven track record of architecting consumer-facing client applications used by millions of MAU
  • Expert at operating in a modern, agile software development lifecycle
  • Exceptional leadership skills and experience leading distributed technical teams to deliver high-quality software products on time
  • Experience with polyglot software development JS, Java, Kotlin, Swift, Objective C, C#, HTML, Ruby, etc
  • Experience managing to build pipelines to deploy web applications on platforms such as Heroku, AWS, and Google Cloud Platform
  • Experience with serverless infrastructure Lambdas / Cloud Functions
  • Experience with various database technologies: PostgreSQL, Redis, Firestore, etc.
  • Experience building content management systems and back-end enterprise administration applications
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication and executive presentation skills are required
  • Creative thinker and innovator in touch with Red Bull brand audiences
  • Ability to travel as needed; work flexible hours/days of the week
  • Travel 40-50%
