Director, Enterprise Business Systems

We are currently seeking a Director, Enterprise Business Systems to join our team.

This position will be focused on leading the evolution and modernization of the observability and application performance management (APM) functions. Responsible for providing leadership and supervision to ensure continuous operations and optimization of major corporate systems, enterprise applications, and production/development environments in alignment with the Company’s business goals and objectives. This role also ensures the coordination, planning, documentation, and communications of the Company’s Disaster Recovery Plan including testing and maximizing data recoverability capabilities.

Responsibilities:
  • This position will be focused on leading the evolution and modernization of the observability and application performance management (APM) functions.
  • This role will be responsible for developing a comprehensive observability strategy, managing the APM team, and ensuring the implementation of state-of-the-art tools and methodologies to enhance the performance and reliability of Insperity’s IT infrastructure and applications.
  • Responsible for all aspects of managing the enterprise business systems including:
    • Provides vision and leadership to high-quality, cost-effective processing environment that contributes to achieving corporate and divisional business goals. Oversight includes systems software (operation systems, transaction systems, interfaces with other enterprise system software), database management (RDBMS/MDDBMS, parallel processing), open systems storage management, and maintenance support.
    • Ensures major corporate systems and enterprise applications operate smoothly and optimizes productivity for key users, ensures systems availability, and a stable production processing environment through the development and implementation of procedures and controls and provides system support for corporate production/development in a client/server environment.
    • Ensures systems operate flawlessly, manages cross-platform storage administration functions, implements backup systems to maximize recoverability, and reduce human intervention and margin of error, ensures data availability and recoverability including disaster recovery capabilities.
    • Directs and plans the scheduling, input/output controls, job setup, job execution, systems monitoring, and operational support activities of the technical platform, provides guidance and direction for the staff involved in this activity, designs and implements procedures, documentation, and controls, actively searches for ways to automate and streamline the activities needed, provides a controlled and well-managed environment for the successful processing of production applications.
    • Oversees the efforts of the Business Systems Team with other production operations computing groups.
    • Defines and implements IT policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Conducts performance reviews on all platforms and implements tuning changes to maximize system utilization, performs capacity planning studies to trend system usage, and works closely with application developers to understand future requirements for current production systems, develops long-range plans, and recommends solutions.
  • Analyzes technologies and processes that improve the reliability, efficiency, and availability of the production environment.
  • Toolset Evaluation and Implementation: Assess the current observability tools, including AppDynamics, SolarWinds, ThousandEyes, SQL Sentry, and Nagios. Recommend and implement new tools and technologies to improve efficiency and performance.
  • Participates in Department, Division, and Corporate strategic and tactical planning processes.
  • Maintains knowledge of new technologies in the environment.
  • Oversees, plans, and documents disaster planning for the Technology - Infrastructure & Systems Department. Provides recovery capability for the environment in the event of disaster, provides disaster recovery planning and testing services for the production environment, documents procedures, verifies software/hardware availability at the “hot site”, schedules and conducts periodic tests on each platform, and facilitates application disaster recovery testing.
  • Directs consultation and support to users and other technical units.
  • Supports other corporate resources with availability of staff to handle platforms and other support issues when needed, ensures staff maintains problem resolution data in the call management system (help desk), problems are resolved within published service-level guidelines, and consistent quality service is provided to clients.
  • Researches potential technology solutions in support of procurement efforts.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders to define business and systems requirements for new technology implementations.
  • Ensures applicable management member(s) are apprised of the operational status of all production systems and communicates critical information to management, users and staff related to platforms.
  • Makes management hiring decisions through a targeted selection process of behavioral interviewing to obtain future leaders.
  • Coaches, mentors, and leads leaders through clear expectations and line of sight to business strategy with solid understanding of operations.
  • Provides employees with timely, candid, and constructive feedback, endeavors to develop employees to their full potential, recognizes and rewards employees for accomplishments and prepares and conducts annual performance reviews.
  • Builds inclusive and collaborative partnerships across multiple departments, with various approaches to influence and plans work around common goals.
  • Makes decisions and communicates in a way that connects people, tasks, and resources to achieve business objectives.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in the field of Computer Science, Engineering, a related discipline, or four years of related work experience is required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in IT operations, with at least 5 years in a leadership role focused on observability, APM, or related fields.
  • Strong technical knowledge of network and PC operating systems.
  • Strong technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols and standards.
  • Extensive application support experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of observability tools and practices, including experience with SolarWinds, AppDynamics, and other relevant technologies
  • Proven experience in IT infrastructure planning and development.
  • Excellent understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
  • Strong understanding of human resource management principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Strong understanding of project management principles and the ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed, strong detail-orientation, and proven analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language.
