The School of Professional Studies resides within the division of Academic Affairs, reporting to the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. The academic service unit works collaboratively with departments, colleges, and academic support units to ensure integrated partnerships for enrollment growth, student success and faculty effectiveness in teaching.

Primary Purpose of Position
The Director of Program Management contributes to enrollment growth and student success by providing administrative leadership oversight of the delivery, assessment, and continuous improvement of online academic programs, professional credit programs, Youth Programs, and Summer Term

Summary of Position Responsibilities
  • The Director of Program Management is responsible for strategic planning, program budgeting, resource allocation, and managing team performance related to program quality, enrollment goals, student success, and financial health.
  • The Director of Program Management maintains partnership agreements and works collaboratively with academic departments, colleges, support units, and industry experts to deliver high quality distance education programs and professional credit programs.
  • Responsibilities also include collaborating with teams across the School of Professional Studies and academic units to launch new programs.
  • The Director of Program Management also collaborates with the SPS Marketing & Communications team and the SPS Enrollment & Student Services team to achieve enrollment goals.
Minimum Education/Experience
  • Requires a minimum of a Master's Degree
  • A graduate degree and five years of progressively more responsible work experience managing academic or professional educational programs is required.
  • Must demonstrate success in managing programs and achieving goals related to program quality, enrollment targets, and student success metrics.
  • Experience in working collaboratively and effectively with a diverse community of faculty and administrators, as well as constituencies external to the campus.
  • Leadership and management experience including coaching, onboarding, leading difficult conversations, conflict mediation, establishing and measuring performance expectations, workflow management, and leading effective teams.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • A graduate degree and seven years of progressively more responsible work experience in Distance Education and/or Continuing Education in an accredited college or university setting is preferred.
  • 5 years of leadership and management experience including coaching, onboarding, leading difficult conversations, conflict mediation, establishing and measuring performance expectations, workflow management, and leading effective teams.
  • Experience within a large public four-year, doctoral-level state university is preferred.
  • Excellent research, analytical, strategic-thinking, problem solving, and organizational skills; excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills, ability to develop long-range goals and objectives while managing details across multiple projects and tasks; ability to work effectively both as a member of a team and as an individual responsible for producing results.
  • Must be self-sufficient in the use of computer for work processing, spreadsheets, and email applications.

  • This position is eligible for telework once fully trained and at the direction of the Sr. Director, Program Management & Learner Engagement, School of Professional Studies.
  • Must live within a commutable distance of campus.
