ABOUT THIS POSITION

Over 48 million passengers traveled through Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in 2023, one of the busiest airports in the country in the nation's 5th largest city. Sky Harbor is the largest of three airports in the Phoenix Airport System (Phoenix Sky Harbor, Deer Valley, and Goodyear airports) which is operated by the City of Phoenix Aviation Department and has an economic impact of $44.3 billion annually.

The Aviation Department has a vacancy for an Electronic Systems Specialist. This position installs, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, and calibrates electronic computerized baggage handling system networks, devices, components, controllers, modules, and databases. Systems include the Baggage Handling Systems at Sky Harbor airport used for the movement of baggage to and from terminal to airplane. These systems are used for data gathering, reporting, displaying system status, and controlling conveyors. Responsibilities include preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of intelligent baggage handling systems; diagnosing and correcting PLC programs, variable frequency drives and operating system software problems; analyzing, repairing, and aligning laser arrays; performing daily and periodic shift inspections, cleaning, and diagnostics of mechanical system components. Applicant must be able to perceive the full range of the color spectrum in working with color-coded wires and electrical components. Eligible candidates should be comfortable working around 110, 208, 240, 277 and 480 VAC voltages. The Baggage Handling group provides 24/7 technical field support and emergency response to internal and external customers.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to manage time effectively in scheduling and performing service calls.
  • Ability to climb ladders or steps to reach objects and work at heights greater than ten feet.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Microsoft Office 365 Suite, and SAP.
  • Knowledge of accessing and working in virtual environments.
  • Knowledge of Rockwell Automation FactoryTalk View SE development, deployment, and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of security system devices, panels, electronic hardware, and conduit/cabling requirements.
  • Knowledge of Rockwell Automation/Allen Bradley Control Logix platform controls and communication protocols.
  • Knowledge of networking infrastructures and TCP/IP communication, and troubleshooting skills for hardwired industrial controls.
  • Knowledge and comprehension of electrical and electronic industry standards (i.e., National Electrical Manufacturers Association NEMA, National Electrical Code (NEC), International Organization for Standardization (IOS), Underwriters Laboratories).

SALARY

Pay Range: $26.83 to $45.89 per hour.

Hiring Range: $26.83 to $35.96 per hour.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Three years of journey level experience in installation and maintenance of electronic and digital systems or related distribution systems.
  • Associate's degree in electronics or related field.
  • Other combinations of experience and education which meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
  • Experience with variable frequency drives.
  • Experience working with LANs, Wans, and VPNs.
  • Experience managing and maintaining database virtual servers.
  • Experience reading, interpreting, working from prints, sketches, and diagrams etc.
  • Experience with programming and troubleshooting Baggage Handling Systems or Bulk Material Handling Conveyor Systems PLC's or SCADA controls.
