Electronic Systems Specialist - Street Transportation Department

The Street Transportation Department is currently seeking an Electronic Systems Specialist for the Traffic Signal Shop, responsible for evaluating, troubleshooting, and repairing the citywide systems and infrastructure that make up the Intelligent Transportation System. The Traffic Signal Shop provides 24/7 technical field support and emergency response to internal and external customers. This position requires shift, weekend, and holiday work hours.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Knowledge of safety protocols for handling electrical systems.
• Familiar with the essentials of a computer: software and hardware.
• Familiar with devices that regulate mechanical and electrical systems using inputs, outputs, and logic.

SALARY

Pay Range: $26.83 to $39.64 per hour.

Hiring Range: $26.83 to $35.96 per hour.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Three years of journey level experience in installation and maintenance of electronic and digital systems or related distribution systems.
• Associate's degree in electronics or related field.
• Other combinations of experience and education which meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

• Moving objects weighing 50 pounds or more may be required.
• May require working irregular hours, second and/or third shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings.
• May require working outside in a various environmental extremes such as heat, cold, rain, air pollution, and dust.
• All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
• Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

• Experience operating a bucket truck.
• Experience working with traffic signals.
• Experience assessing, evaluating, troubleshooting, and repairing PLCs or traffic control equipment.
• Experience evaluating the utility and condition for electronic systems and equipment related to traffic signal devices.
