The Street Transportation Department is recruiting for an Electronic Systems Specialist (ITS Communications Specialist) position in the Traffic Services Section. Primary duties include, but are not limited to, the technical evaluation, installation, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of the citywide traffic signal IT network system, and electrical/electronic infrastructure that makes up the entire Intelligent Transportation IT Network System. The ITS Communications Specialists provide 24/7 technical field support and emergency response to internal and external customers. This position requires shift, weekend, and holiday work hours.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 Suite and SAP.
  • Knowledge of networking, electronic communications, and/or intelligent transportation systems.
  • Able to safely work with voltages as high as 220 V AC & DC.
  • Able to distinguish full range of colors working with LED's and/or color-coded wires.
  • Able to configure and use laptop/computers to access the traffic signal network devices and databases.
  • Able to diagnose, identify, and resolve network issues to minimize downtime and ensure reliable network performance.

SALARY

Pay Range: $26.83 to $45.89 per hour.

Hiring Range: $26.83 to $35.96 per hour.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Three years of journey level experience in installation and maintenance of electronic and digital systems or related distribution systems.
  • Associate's degree in electronics or related field.
  • Other combinations of experience and education which meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

  • May require working after-hours/weekend and on-call rotation schedule.
  • May require working outside in a variety of environmental extremes such as heat, cold, rain, air pollution, and dust.
  • May require working in a vehicle based aerial lift or bucket truck at heights up to 40 feet.
  • All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
  • Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
  • Experience with TCP/IP network and infrastructure.
  • Experience with layer 2 network switching communications.
  • Experience using network commands including ping, traceroute, ipconfig, and netstat.
  • Experience with Virtual Local Area Networks (VLAN) configurations and assigning ports.
  • CompTIA Network+ certification, desired.
  • IMSA/FOA Certified Fiber Optic Technician certification, desired.
