The Department of Water Resources' South Central Region Office has an opening for an Engineer, Water Resources position in the Hydrology, Hydraulics, and Flood Management Section.

The San Joaquin River System is the second largest river in the state and offers many beneficial uses that sustain humans and wildlife, including drinking, agricultural irrigation, wildlife habitat, and recreation. Over the years, human and naturally occurring impacts have affected the river's connectivity. DWR is one of the leading agencies in the San Joaquin River Restoration Program helping to restore self-sustaining fish populations to the river. The restoration area stretches for 150 miles of the San Joaquin River, from the base of Friant Dam to the confluence with the Merced River.

Under the direction of the Senior Engineer, Water Resources, the successful candidate will perform a variety of engineering tasks and assignments, including conducting studies and investigations, gathering resources data, preparing reports and design documents, and assisting with the implementation of projects related to water resources. Most of the candidate's responsibilities will be related to river restoration on the San Joaquin River System but will also support other activities within the River Investigations Branch.

Desirable Qualifications In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with effective oral and written communication skills, broad computer skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks, the ability to work effectively with others in a team environment, and the knowledge of water-related engineering principles. Our preferred candidate will have experience related to rivers, flood management, data collection/surveys, restoration, and design. Experience with hydraulic, hydrologic modeling, and drafting software are desired. Knowledge of ArcGIS and Microsoft products is a plus.
