One year experience in environmental education programs; or one year of college study with specialization in natural science, natural resources, or environmental education.

Applicant must have a valid driver's license. Travel and working early morning, evenings and weekends will be required, some overnight travel to be expected. Actual work schedule, duties, and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview.

Duties Description 1) Education: Teach programs independently in school classrooms and conduct programs for adults and the general public in both indoor and outdoor settings.
2) Actively participate in the NYSDEC Environmental Education Camp Program through staff training, review of camp programs, leading camper programs, maintaining health and safety protocols and assisting with maintaining program materials during and after camp season.
3) Teacher Training Assistance: Help education staff conduct educator workshops using national environmental education programs such as Projects WILD, Learning Tree and WET (Water Education for Teachers).
4) Public Outreach: Speak with the public at fairs, festivals, colleges,or
other events on the mission and goals of NYSDEC and to educate
the public about the environment and natural resources as well as to assist in searching for seasonal camp staff for the NYSDEC Environmental Education Camp Program and promoting such program.
5) Support: Assist education staff with answering questions from
the public, scheduling programs, creating lesson plans, filing
documents, maintaining collections and supplies, supporting NYSDEC Environmental Education Camp Program at Camp Colby and Pack Forest.

Additional Comments Must have a valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Travel may be required.
Overtime may be required.
Overnight travel may be required.
Weekends and holidays may be required.
Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies.
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
Telecommuting may be available, will be discussed at interview.

This is a hourly appointment currently funded through 3/31/2025, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.
