Duties Description This position will serve as the Forest Preserve Stewardship and Recreation Coordinator in the Bureau of Forest Preserve and Conservation. DEC is responsible for the management of about 3 million acres of Forest Preserve lands. This responsibility includes the myriad stewardship functions related to this land base, including natural resource protection, work planning, permitting, public access and recreational programs and activities. The Forest Preserve Stewardship and Recreation Coordinator will assist with this responsibility in the following ways:

• Coordinate with Division leadership, regional offices, stakeholders, and local governments on implementation of strategic actions that promote sustainable recreation.
• Develop and manage contracts for construction, maintenance, and stewardship of recreational facilities.
• Act as liaison and advisor to other DEC programs, divisions and partner agencies on matters related to Forest Preserve management.
• Assist with the creation of policy and guidance for recreational facility development and maintenance.
• Assist with the development and implementation of Visitor Use Management (VUM) guidance and data collection protocols; coordinate with other staff on planning and data collection priorities in support of visitor use solutions.
• Develop stewardship project budgets and cost estimates.
• Assist with the administration of grant and fundraising programs related to sustainable recreation and smart growth.
• Oversee management of bureau's review and approval of permits and work plans
• Coordinate development of volunteer and partnership agreements
• Assist in coordinating meetings with interest groups on key issues.
• Generate volunteer involvement in specific stewardship projects where appropriate.
• Assist with communicating about the Division's stewardship and recreation programs though presentations and various media.

Additional Comments Must have a valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Travel may be required.
Overtime may be required.
Overnight travel may be required.
