CDFW is looking for an enthusiastic, open-minded and driven individual to help monitor and manage the state's groundfish fishery. If you would like the opportunity to make a statewide impact on California's iconic groundfish fishery, this may be the job for you!

The incumbent will be conducting work critical to managing, monitoring and assessing the status of California's groundfish stocks which support some of the State's largest and most valuable marine fisheries. Assist in supporting state and federal management activities through both the Pacific Fishery Management Council and California Fish and Game Commission processes. Day to day job tasks can range from developing outreach materials and answering phone calls to recreational and/or commercial anglers to analyzing catch data against harvest limits to report to managers. It will also inlcude travel to meetings to represent the Department on groundfish fishery matters and interact in different field opportunities.

Working Conditions
Staff will work a 7/40 work schedule. Weekend work, early morning and late-night work hours are occasionally required with advance notice. The majority of work will be performed in an office or tele-work setting with adequate lighting, heating and ventilation. This position is eligible for a hybrid tele-work schedule depending on operational needs. Ability to use a computer several hours a day. A portion of the work will be performed in fish processing labs, fish holding areas, and/or in the field. Attend meetings and hearings, work with staff statewide to complete work assignments. Required travel, including weekends is required within and outside the state of California via private or public transportation. Travel may include multiple day overnight stays up to seven days. Minimally, candidate will be required travel to attend up to 5 multi-day PFMC meetings and other adjacent meetings, based upon departmental need.

Knowledge of: Monitoring and evaluation techniques and principals in fisheries. Groundfish, Pacific halibut or other fisheries management laws, policies, concepts, goals and objectives. State and Federal regulatory processes.
