GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Provides professional casework services for children, adults and families; carries a full case load and demonstrates the ability to make sound decisions independently with only supervisory conferences; exercises sound judgment and initiative; maintains thorough familiarity with agency standards, policies and functions as well as the full range of community resources; performs other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Direct case management for the Child Care program, processing applications and completing interviews and assessments to determine approval for the program assistance.
  • Enhanced case management & support to families addressing personal/family problems, financial challenges, employment issues and other issues and barriers to self-sufficiency, often working in partnership with VIEW case managers.
  • Ongoing oversight through re-assessment and case closure.
  • Payment authorization to vendors, initiating purchase orders and completing data entry for service authorization.
  • Program compliance, making fraud referrals as needed.
  • Consumer education regarding quality childcare, assists families locate subsidy vendors and inspection reports for subsidy vendors in their area.
  • Emergency shelter duty as required in state and local policy, at the direction of the County Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned.
The person in this position: must have a strong working knowledge of the Child Care policies in addition to general knowledge of other DSS benefits programs and the service array in the community; must be proficient in social work principles and practices, human behavior and the current social, economic and health problems; and must have strong and effective oral and written communication skills, the ability to plan and organize work efficiently and have empathy and objectivity working with clients.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Four (4) year baccalaureate degree in a relevant social science field in accordance with VA Code § 63.2-219; and one (1) year of relevant social work experience; OR: Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.

  • Valid driver's license to perform assigned duties at various locations.
  • Successful completion of all training requirements established pursuant to the VA 63.2-208. Standards for personnel.
  • Criminal history record check and fingerprinting of all employees in authorized and hourly safety sensitive positions.
  • Successful completion of all required NIMS courses.
