The School of Medicine is seeking an experienced financial management professional who is looking for an opportunity to lead a team in supporting financial and administrative operations in a Basic Health Science department.

Position Summary:

Successful candidates will have a strong background in financial management, be proactive, and present a willingness to learn and grow in the role. This position will focus on streamlining and updating fiscal processes, financial reporting, and overall financial management practices in an assigned basic health science department, while also overseeing the day-to-day departmental fiscal operations in assigned unit.

This position will offer opportunities for career growth in finance and operations management and will serve as a key contributor in initiatives aimed at modernizing and streamlining business operations practices across all Basic Health Sciences departments to both increase efficiencies and help foster collaboration across Basic Health Science units.

Core Responsibilities:

Fiscal Operations:
  • Manage daily fiscal operations, monthly reconciliation, purchasing, corpcard, and travel
  • Ensure that all purchasing and budget transactions adhere to VCU fiscal policy with maintenance of a moderate level of technical knowledge regarding university systems and competence with university procedures, policies, and guidelines
  • Serve as supervisor to fiscal staff members who manage the daily operational tasks
Budget Development & Monitoring, Analysis:
  • Assist in annual budget development and implementation including the assessment of requested funding, presentation of various budget scenarios to departmental leadership
  • Analyze monthly financial data and develop reporting tailored to needs of faculty and leadership
  • Function as primary effort coordinator for sponsored research
  • Assist with annual departmental space analysis and reporting
  • Manage budget transactions
  • Ensure salary and benefit charges are allocated appropriately and the correct documentation/tracking is maintained
