The Department of Corrections is currently recruiting for Financial Specialist - Senior positions located throughout the state. The employment register established from this recruitment will be used to fill any current and future vacancies.

Position Summary

These positions are responsible for exercising independent judgment and decision making responsibilities for a variety of complex fiscal documents (invoice vouchers, direct pay vouchers, journal vouchers, travel vouchers and Purchasing Card Statements) and transactions; for ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations; Department of Administration (DOA) and agency accounting, internal controls, policies and procedures; for communications with staff and vendors to resolve discrepancies arising from the approval or disapproval of financial transactions; for entering on-line (direct) financial data into the Department's Enterprise Resource Planning System (PeopleSoft); and for the monitoring of the system to ensure the integrity of the fiscal data which reflects the fiscal actions and obligations. This position requires the ability to work across multiple programs with a high degree of independence, utilizing but not limited to PeopleSoft, Excel, Financial Management System/Wisconsin State Management Accounting & Reporting Tool (FMS/WISMART) Data Queries (DOC Legacy Accounting Systems), FMS, EOSP, and US Bank Purchasing Card.

Salary Information

Starting salary for this position is $25.32 per hour plus excellent benefits. The pay schedule and range for this position is 02-13.

Pay on appointment for current or former state employees may vary according to the applicable provisions of the State Compensation Plan, Statutes and Administrative Code.

A 12- month probationary period may be required.

Job Details

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.

The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.

The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.

Qualifications

Knowledge of modern bookkeeping, accounting & auditing practices and principles; working knowledge and usage of MS-Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access), state accounting systems and the Internet; ability to understand and follow complex written and oral instructions; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, officials and the public; and identify issues and follow through with problem solving techniques
