Primary responsibilities will include those of an Operative clinical and preclinical faculty member. Reporting to the Director, Division of Operative Dentistry. In addition:
- Responsibilities include to support the vision, mission, core values and goals of the institution through teaching, service, patient care and research .
- To educate dental students utilizing best available evidence to achieve and maintain optimal patient oral health, comfort, function and esthetics.
- Supervise, instruct, and evaluate pre-doctoral students in the following environments: simulation laboratory, didactic (classroom/seminar), and clinic.
- Supervise students in pre-clinical courses in Dental Morphology, Operative Dentistry, Esthetic Dentistry, Digital Dentistry, and other courses offered by the Department of General Dentistry (as assigned by the Chair). All pre-clinical Labs are held in the GEB - General Education Building Lab.
- Supervise, instruct, and evaluate students in the dental clinic - usually 3-5 days a week for faculty that is 80%-100% FTE, for 60% FTE faculty 2-3 days a week.
- Willingness/ability to supervise 4 to 6 pre-doctoral students in the clinical setting in Operative/Restorative/CAD CAM procedures as they relate to General Dentistry. Faculty are assigned to students based upon the patient schedule, which can include one of more sections on the clinic floor.
- Serve on College or University committees (UTHSC), Boards for state/federal government agencies, Professional societies, and/or committees within the College of Dentistry.
- Actively engage in community service alongside students/residents.
- Conduct basic or clinical research, and/or other scholarly activities that will qualify for appropriate promotion and tenure. Participate in summer research projects, mentoring D-1 and D-2 students.
- Attend Departmental Meetings, Departmental Training and Calibration exercises.
- Participate in the delivery of emergency services.

- Completion of an accredited advanced residency training - preferably Operative residency training program, AEGD or Military Comprehensive Dentistry training.
- Certification from the American Board of Operative Dentistry or equivalent certificate (ABGD) preferred.
- Advanced training or significant experience in CAD/CAM, digital dentistry and digital workflows desirable.
- Work history of involvement in teaching, service, and scholarly activity.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Must have prior administrative experience in health science education.
- A history of scholarly activity or service to national organizations of the operative specialty.
- Extensive clinical experience in general or restorative dentistry in conjunction with an active clinical practice preferred.
