Job Description
1. Receive notices of DRG Validation and Clinical Documentation Denials, log manually and/or electronically in EPIC, where appropriate.
2. Review findings and perform chart review to ascertain if coding and/or DRG are Valid. Engage respective provider and/or physician champion for input if necessary. Determine impact on both data quality and revenue and submit report on same to department management.
3. Verify principle diagnosis, all relevant secondary diagnosis, principle and secondary procedures are coded, abstracted and sequenced accurately appropriately.
4. Perform pre- and post-bill DRG validation of daily flagged cases on 3M HDM "Coder Hold" report and Provider Consultant Solutions (PCS) "Sentinel" review process.
5. Assist on education and training of new and existing coding and CDI staff. Provide adequate feedback regarding basic, intermediate and advanced level coding principles and techniques, where appropriate.
6. Assist in monitoring of daily discharge not final billed (DNFB) report to facilitate timely coding and DRG assignment.
7. Assist management team to keep DNFB and coding backlog status reports at lowest and optimal level on daily basis. Review backlog and hold reports and validate cases belong on lists.
8. Participate in performance improvement activities; data collection, tracking, trending and reporting initiatives. Assist in development of monthly Physician Documentation Improvement newsletter.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Possession of a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) credential from AHIMA and two (2) years of satisfactory experience in coding and abstracting medical records in a recognized hospital or health care organization, of which one (1) year has been in a supervisory and/or administrative capacity; or
2. Possession of a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) credential from AHIMA and four (4) years of satisfactory experience in coding and abstracting medical records in a recognized hospital or health care organization, of which two (2) years have been in a supervisory and/or administrative capacity; or
3. Possession of a valid certificate as a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) from AHIMA and six (6) years of satisfactory experience in coding and abstracting medical records in a recognized hospital or health care organization, of which three (3) years have been in a supervisory and/or administrative capacity; or
4. A satisfactory equivalent of education and experience.
