Job Description

Health System Pharmacist Level 3

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY 1:

Outpatient Pharmacy (List summary of duties and responsibilities):

Fill prescriptions, resolve discrepancies in patient therapy.

Ensures that weekly controlled drug inventory is done.

Scheduling for opening and closing the CPD pharmacy,

Oversees filling of controlled drug prescriptions.

Oversees the maintenance of inventory in the WAMB/EPIC

Oversees robotic system.

Prepares daily schedule for lunch and break coverage with assistance from Assistant Coordinating Manager.

Oversees checking and reporting of outdated drugs,

Documents interventions, adverse drug reactions, and medication errors.

Supervises the operation of the outpatient pharmacy.

Coordinates new pharmacy staff orientation.

Answers the telephone, identifying self and department.

Directs calls to appropriate personnel.

Participates in patient care counseling activities

Answers requests at the pharmacy window.

Oversees cleanliness of the pharmacy area and keep equipment clean, neat, and well-organized.

Ensures staff compliance with regulatory agency and hospital rules and regulations.

Oversees day to day operations or applications within their scope of responsibilities.

Supervises and lead the provision of safe, timely, efficient, equitable, effective and patient-centered pharmacy services.

Hold staff accountable to standards of the department,

Serves as the liaison to coordinate compliance and regulatory issues for areas of responsibility.

Supports pharmacy workflows and practice expectations through operational planning.

Identify opportunities to redesign system of oversight to maximize performance (i.e.: labor and operational efficiency).

Manage current electronic health record (EHR), technology and automation for optimum value.

Engages customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with services. Resolves customer complaints, helps respond to customers' requests in a timely manner and answers questions to ensure a positive customer experience. Models and shares customer service best practices,

Develops strong relationships with customers by anticipating customer needs and proactively offering services to provide the best experience possible when using the pharmacy. Enhances customer experience by increasing focus on healthcare services.

Maintains and applies knowledge of Company asset protection techniques. Supports Director of Pharmacy with diversion monitoring and response any concerns that would compromise the security of the pharmacy.

Communicates prescription errors to the accountable pharmacist and adheres to Company policies and procedures in relation to pharmacy errors and the Continuous Quality Improvement Program.

Ensures the accurate processing of insurance claims to resolve customer issues and prevent payment rejections. Follows-up with insurance companies as well as medical providers and conducts or participates in 3rd party audit. Oversees the recession and deliver / icky of discharge e restrictions.

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY 2:

Human Resources Management
  1. Supervise and direct pharmacy support personnel.
  2. Verify the daily activities of pharmacy technicians and pharmacists.
  3. Participate in the performance appraisal of pharmacy support personnel.
  4. Monitors staff performance and follows appropriate disciplinary proceedings as necessary.
  5. Develop and/or maintain policies and procedures
  6. Work independently as per professional standards (working supervisory role).
  7. Identify and deal with personnel issues in a proactive and timely manner, with appropriate follow-up to improve performance.
  8. Manage labor expenses (overtime and compensatory time).
  9. Manage employee leaves of absence and family leaves.
  10. Ensure staff competency via training, competency assessments, and other means.
  11. Work with staff on ongoing basis to attain their professional development goals by directing, coaching and supporting.
  12. Lead and develop pharmacists, technicians, and support staff to be eligible for and attain available professional certifications and recognition of knowledge, skills and abilities.
  13. Participate in the recruitment, interviewing and hiring of staff.
  14. Coordinate and lead team meetings/huddles.
  15. Lead initiatives to identify gaps in training knowledge and areas for staff performance improvement.
  16. Oversees the development, documentation, provision and preparation of training information, ensuring that materials are updated and prepare to meet the training needs of all pharmacy staff.
  17. Lead the training of staff on application specific straining updates.


Minimum Qualifications

Maintain current New York State pharmacy license and registration.
  • BS or PharmD Pharmacy degree

Hospital experienced preferred, but not required.
