Job Overview: The Herd Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for supervising daily herd operations and directing, training, and assisting in scheduling ranch hands as needed. They are also responsible for feeding and caring for animals, supervising caprine dairy operations, and the maintenance of all herd areas (barn, corrals, paddocks, chicken coop, milking parlor, etc). They must also assist the Recreation Team with facilitating herd activities.

Qualifications/Skills:
Requirements are representative of minimum levels of knowledge, skills and /or abilities. To perform this job successfully, the employee will possess the abilities or aptitudes to perform each duty proficiently with or without reasonable accommodation.
Essential:
• Ability to maintain safety standards and train staff on proper feeding and maintenance of animals.
• Ability to work out-of-doors, year-round, in all types of weather
• Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time
• Possess a valid driver's license & ability to operate light farm vehicles
Desirable:
• Previous experience in hotel or hospitality field and with equines/caprines/bovines/ camelids/ruminants
• Ability to communicate in English and Spanish (to guests and staff) to their understanding
• Previous experience with purchasing systems.
• Ability to assist other departments, in cooperation with Herd Maintenance
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Coordinate the care, purchase, feeding, milking, and breeding of herd animals
• Ensure the safety of staff, animals, and guests at the Hilltop
• Order and procure animal feed and operating supplies
• Prepare, keep, track, and update as needed records of animal health/vaccination and animal feed/operating supplies purchases
• Maintain proper working order of all equipment/infrastructure/areas and safe/sanitary/hygienic conditions in all herd operations, especially milking parlor
• Assist Grounds team as needed in maintaining Hilltop areas including planning and implementing grazing programs
• Help plan, facilitate, and implement animal & other activity programming at the Hilltop and on property for leisure/group guests & members
• Approach all encounters with guests and employees in an attentive, friendly, courteous and service-oriented manner
• Assist in weekly scheduling of herd maintenance staff and other Recreation operations as needed
• Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include wearing the proper uniform.
• Comply at all times with Carmel Valley Ranch standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
• Maintain a warm and friendly demeanor at all times.
• Employees must, at all times, be attentive, friendly, helpful, and courteous to all guests, managers, and fellow employees.
