1. The nursing staffing coordinator is the secretary to the DNS.

2. All clerical and scheduling of staff is completed according to resident acuity, volume and staff availability.

3. All documentation, filing, faxing in regard to nursing service is channeled through the nursing staffing coordinator.

May include working some evening and/or nightshifts, weekends, and holidays.

Occasionally the employee may be exposed to the community environment (e.g.- going to clinics) and the presenting weather.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Typing of policies and procedures for nursing service.

Typing of reports, letters and other correspondence as per Director of Nursing/ or designee request.

2. Human resource management:

Works with Nursing Director to schedule interviews for nursing vacancies.

Filing and keeping human resource employee folders in order and confidential.

Takes pictures of employees for identification cards.

Creation of new employee orientation packages for nursing.

Ensuring all nursing staff has completed competencies/ training and in-services before allowed to work.

Checking on Chauncey, sexual predator websites prior to hire (screen to prohibit abuse, neglect and mistreatment).

Sending for at least 3 references to verify work history and moral character.

Authentication of certification, license and education (from original source).

Collecting all CHRC supervisory forms for C.N.A. / escort staff, until cleared by F.B.I.

Reviews all nursing staff certifications/ licensees for current dates and requests renewals.

Assist infection control practitioner in notifying staff when physicals are due.

2. Coordinates with staffing agencies to ensure:

Contract is current.

Agency employees are properly credentialed (license, registration, school, experience) and screened (Chauncey, CHRC for unlicensed, sex offender web site) by agency (Agency must send confirmation).

Agency trains their employees in our mandatory topics annually (and submits written evidence).

Agency checks references on each of their staff.

Utilizes agency staff when per-diems/ part-timers can not work shifts available.

3. Creates excel permanent staffing plan for each unit and shift on a monthly basis.

Regular staff is utilized first.

Part timers/ per-diems are utilized in frequencies agreed upon on interview and Center's needs.

When open spots are available (due to sick, call, vacation or other leaves) the most senior staff, who will not accumulate over-time will be called first.

Assists in eliminating over-time needs.

Assists Chief Financial Officer in identifying hours worked (when unclear, e.g.- missed punch).

Monitors employees for excessive/ patterns of lateness or absenteeism (and notifies DNS).

Checks documentation related to nursing human resources.

Installed, monitors finger punch time system to ensure accurate time/ leave is captured.

4. Enters data into IPRO (or other programs) for:

Pressure Ulcers/ Wounds

Falls/ Events

Infection Surveillance

5. Assists nursing managers when instructed by Nursing Director.

In creation of forms/ documents/ reports.

6. Department of Health preparation:

Helps copy medical records as directed by DNS

Collects and types data for nursing census of resident conditions (monthly?)

Types nurses assignments

7. Other assignment as dictated by Nursing Director.

8. Assists DNS on daily basis with problems/ issues in the DNS office.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Must not have a record in regard to abuse, neglect or mistreatment (registry of 2 neighboring states, criminal background checks and personal references)

2. High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

3. At least six (6) months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience

4. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

5. Ability to compose and type simple correspondence.

6. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to residents, visitors or other employees of the organization.

7. Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers

8. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

9. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized form.

10. Must be computer literate (experience a plus in excel, word, graphics and other programs for time management).

11. Must exhibit a caring spirit/ attitude for the elderly/ geriatric population.

12. Knowledge of SBV system a plus
