Under the administrative direction of the Deputy Director of Communications and Outreach, and in collaboration with the Deputy Director of Environmental Justice and Equity, the Information Officer (IO) II will serve as the Outreach Lead and have primary responsibility for developing, organizing, directing and evaluating a comprehensive public communications and outreach program for the implementation of SprayDays California, the highly-anticipated statewide pesticide application notification system.

This position leads a highly political and visible engagement, education and outreach strategy communicating complex regulatory structure in plain language and approaching work with sensitivity, awareness and a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

Working Conditions

  • Daily use of a copier, telephone, computer, and general office equipment
  • Frequest use of a handcart to transport documents and/or equipment over 20 pounds (i.e., laptop, computer, projector, reference materials, handouts, flyers, etc.)
  • Travel up to 25% of the time may be required, sometimes overnight, alone or with others, locally and out of town for in person attendance of events, meetings, presentations and training utilizing various modes of transportation.
  • Travel may involve working weekends and irregular work hours
Note: This position may be eligible for hybrid telework under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria set forth in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework.
