U nder the direction of the Staging Presentation & Chamber Support (SPC) Information Technology Supervisor II, the incumbent provides a broad range of complex customer support and assistance, business analysis, technical expertise and assistance, training, and testing of complex issues to ensure the functionality and performance of customer hardware and software in support of the Office of Legislative Counsel, California Legislature, and other public offices. The incumbent will assist with multiple concurring efforts for hardware upgrades, moves, and initiatives, and research and resolve complex issues and requests for the unit. The incumbent will also act as a subject matter expert for hardware and enterprise software installation; provide testing, report results, and make recommendations to customer contacts for new technology; coach team members while monitoring and tracking customer requests to maintain project oversight; and provide excellent and timely customer service. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: researching hardware requests and providing specifications and recommendations for new and/or replacement technology; providing project documentation and presentations to management and customer leadership; updating and recommending on project changes; creating schedules and resource allocation plans for project deployment and overall project implementation. The incumbent will work closely with the SPC supervisor to identify staff development, key customer service skills, and train team members in both existing and new technology and about legislative business needs. The incumbent is expected to lead the day-to-day operations work, provide support for complex and difficult issues, adjust as needed in handling any issues, and communicate updates as they occur. Core business hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, and the incumbent is expected to be available during core hours. However, the schedule may be adjusted as overtime on weekdays, weekends, and holidays is required during peak times of the year. Peak times generally fall within the legislative session which is January through September.

Working Conditions:

Performance of these duties requires the use of computers and mobile devices such as tablets and mobile phones. Cubicle workspace area in an office building and temperature controlled where there may be extended periods of sitting.

Some travel between offices located in the downtown Sacramento area that may require walking extended distances within several blocks several times a day. Some travel throughout California will be required by state vehicle or airplane is required.

Physical Demands:

Must be able to lift, move, carry, and push on a wheeled cart 50 pounds without accommodation.

Department Information
The Office of Legislative Counsel (OLC) is a small civil service department whose mission is to provide responsive nonpartisan and confidential legal services and information technology support services to the California State Legislature and in support of the legislative process. This position is located in the heart of downtown Sacramento. Your Responsibilities
  • Provide on-site and remote support to VIP offices.
  • Create troubleshooting methods and procedures for Customer Support Section and memorialize in knowledge management tool.
  • Utilize an IT Service Management (ITSM) tool to document fulfillment of service requests and resolution of incidents.
  • Lead small teams during deployments for various hardware and software projects.
  • Create and maintain professional relationships with customer.
