The Role

This position is expected to start around August 2024 and continue through the entire Fall term (i.e through December 2024) or into Spring 2025 if available. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time (40 hours/week) and on-site, for most internships.
International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

Responsibilities

Electrical Engineering
  • Tesla is looking for a skilled and motivated individual to perform electrical engineering activities for our Energy Products design team. This individual will collaborate with a cross functional team of engineers to deliver innovative, best in class products that support Tesla's mission to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy. Seeking candidates who have familiarity with use of DSPs, microcontrollers, and programmable logic devices, familiarity with digital communication busses (CAN, Ethernet, RS-485, USB, SPI, I2C, etc.)
Electronics Design
  • The Energy EE team designs the eyes, ears, and brains of Tesla's AC & DC charging and residential/industrial energy storage products. This skilled and motivated individual will keep pushing this evolving industry forward by designing wireless/wired communication systems, circuits to ensure user safety, energy metering, thermal controls, relay controls for grid connection, and much more. Seeking candidates who have experience using Altium, LTspice, Matlab, Python; hands-on experience designing, building, and testing PCBAs; experience working with switching power supplies and LDOs, analog sense circuits, MCU and digital circuits, communications (CAN, Ethernet, I2C, SPI, RS485), and high voltage circuits
Service Tooling Design
  • The Service Tooling Engineering team is responsible for the design to production of custom service and commissioning tooling hardware to assist in the rapid development and maintenance of Tesla's Energy storage and charging solutions. This skilled and motivated individual will keep pushing this evolving energy industry forward by designing discharge equipment automation, battery charge equipment user interfacing, Low voltage communication protocols, communication equipment, circuits to ensure user safety, signal conditioning, and much more. Seeking candidate who have experience reading and creating electrical schematics (Wiring and PCBA); experience designing and working with digital communication busses (CAN, Ethernet, RS-485, USB, SPI, I2C, etc.); an understanding of key analog components (MOSFETs, op-amps, switching regulators, gate drivers); and proficiency with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, electronic loads, signal generators, etc.)
Industrial Storage Service Engineering
  • The Tesla Energy Industrial Storage Service Engineering team is responsible for diagnosing and resolving product issues and escalations from Field Service teams to drive the best customer experience and fleet availability. In this internship you will identify and help resolve fleet-wide performance, operation, and maintenance challenges across the growing fleet of energy products by creating analytics that provide insights to drive action to maintain and improve the fleet. Seeking candidates who have strong engineering fundamentals and intuition applied to firmware/software-enabled systems, experience with battery systems and power systems, and experience using Python or equivalent for data analysis on very large databases
Manufacturing Engineering
  • Reporting to the Solar Roof Manufacturing Engineering Team, the Manufacturing Equipment Engineering Intern is primarily responsible for the design and deployment of Tesla energy product (including Tesla Solar Roof) factory lines - inclusive of design, commissioning, process development and technical transfer of the tools to the operation team; qualifying them for use with the highest standards of safety, throughput, uptime and yield (OEE). Seeking candidates who have hands-on experience, preferably with high-volume and pilot manufacturing experience with SolidWorks or other 3D CAD software, understanding of automation systems, mechanical engineering, robotics, PLCs, data collection systems


Requirements
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field

      $20.00 - $60.00 + benefits

      Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
