TITLE: Interpreter/Tutor for Hearing Impaired QUALIFICATIONS:

  2. A minimum rating of [ntermediate on the Sign Communication Proficiency Interview (SCP[)


REPORTS TO: Principal

JOB GOAL: To facilitate communication among hearing impaired students and their hearing peers, the classroom teacher, and other personnel in the school system and to maximize development of academic and language skiIIs.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provide expressive and voice interpreting (may include American Sign Language, a form of manually coded English, cued speech, and/or oral interpreting) for hearing impaired students to mainstream classes.
  2. Provides tutoring or note taking services for hearing impaired students when interpreting is not needed.
  3. Participates in educational team meetings, including the development and review of progress on the fndividual Education Plan, and provides insight on the success of communication strategies.
  4. Provides interpreting for school functions outside the classroom, but only during regularly scheduled school hours.
  5. Serves as a liaison to promote good public relations between the hearing impaired, hearing peers, staff, and faculty members.
  6. Confers with regular classroom teacher and teacher of the hearing impaired in order to better prepare for interpreting services.
  7. Maintains and improves signing ability and interpreting skills, and establishes a better understanding of the educational process through an ongoing program of professional development.
  8. Attends all inservice programs and staff meetings as directed by the principal or teacher of the hearing impaired to whom assigned.
  9. Performs other duties as


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

182-days of employment. Salary to be established by the District Salary Schedule.

EVALUATION: Job performance will be evaluated in accordance with Limestone County Board of Education policy.
