The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking an INTERPRETER to use bilingual skills to translate from Spanish to English and/or English to Spanish to assist healthcare practice personnel as a conduit of information in the provision of appropriate patient care. To provide interpreter services during Nurse Family Partnership home visits alongside a Nurse Home Visitor within the community or patient/client home.
Responsibilities:
1. Conducts bilingual interviews with patients, families, visiting physicians and student/volunteer workers. Elicits necessary information, interprets information and provides appropriate instruction.
2. Maintains confidentiality in all matters related to patient care and visitor issues for non-English speaking patients, families and/or their representatives.
3. Initiates services for international patients, families and physicians. Appropriately documents observations, status of patient referrals, fellowship requests, etc.
4. Serves the needs of the international patient, their family and/or physician. Addresses complaints; referring to appropriate service or elevating to manager depending upon the nature of the issue.
5. Performs other duties as assigned.
(Hourly Rate: $17.10 - $27.78)
Qualifications
High School diploma or GED and two (2) years of related experience required. Successful completion of of medical interpretation exam required.
Must be able to use bilingual skills to translate from Spanish to English and/or English to Spanish. Preferable a medical background.
