Why does the job exist?

The Systems Administrator III position designs, manages, and supports all aspects of the Information Technology Division (ITD) computing environment. This position manages group and user permissions for accessing servers in on-premises, virtual, and cloud computing environments.

The IT Systems Administrator III will:
  • Work with network administrators, other systems administrators, and contractors to ensure the smooth operations of all devices in the network;
  • Oversee the operation of a variety of Windows servers in an Active Directory based network;
  • Collaborates with security personnel to ensure safe running of all ITD servers and networks;
  • Assist with the process of upgrading servers and systems, in addition to the process of migrating on-premise servers to a cloud environment (i.e., AWS);
  • Will mentor junior members of the team and provide guidance and direction to them on an ongoing basis.


How does it get done?

The IT Systems Administrator III is responsible for:
  • Overseeing all aspects of the computing environment to ensure maximum uptime and overall system functionality;
  • Collaborating with network administration, help desk, and security personnel to provide any computing functionality required for the operations of the division and the department;
  • Working with ITD management to determine the best solutions to meet the computing needs of the department;
  • The oversight of on-premise, virtual, and cloud environments;
  • Ensuring that all aspects of the computing environment are kept up-to-date and facilitates the upgrading of systems and devices as needed to ensure everything is as current as possible, while still meeting the functional computing needs of the department.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate has:
  • 4+ years of designing, managing and supporting a complex computing environment;
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills;
  • Experience with AWS, VMware, Active Directory, Azure, Group Policy, WSUS, PowerShell and/or other scripting tools;
  • Experience with automated endpoint management and with Linux environment.


Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering or similar technical degree and four (4) years of experience in systems administration. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.

Must obtain a Defensive Driving Certificate.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage.

Some travel may be required.

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
