Job Summary:

This position is in the Immunology and Microbiology Department in Dr. Marijke Keestra-Gounder's lab. The research focus of the laboratory is to investigate the interactions between bacterial (Salmonella Typhimurium, Citrobacter rodentium) and viral (Coxsackievirus B3) pathogens and the innate immune system within the intestinal tract. This research position will involve laboratory-based studies focused on a variety of projects using microbiology, molecular genetics, and immunology-focused approaches, including studies on mice and mouse samples performed at biosafety level 2. There will also be some clerical and managerial activities. Occasionally, experimental protocols will require working in the evening or on weekends. The employee will be working closely with Dr. Keestra-Gounder, graduate students, and postdocs within the Keestra-Gounder laboratory.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Entry Level:

• Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
  • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.

Intermediate Level:

• Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
  • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.
• One (1) year professional-level research experience.

Senior Level:

• Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
  • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.
• Two (2) years of professional-level research experience.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with or willingness to learn laboratory management, animal breeding and handling, working with bacterial and viral species, flow cytometry, molecular genetics.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Anticipated Pay Range:

Entry Level: $45,000 - $57,240

Intermediate Level: $48,970 - $62,290

Senior Level: $52,941 - $67,341

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
