Job Summary:

This position is in the Immunology and Microbiology Department in Dr. Kyla Ost's lab. The research focus of the laboratory is to investigate how the immune system interactions with and limits that pathogenic potential of commensal fungi within the intestinal microbiome. This research position will involve laboratory-based studies focused on a variety of projects using microbiology, molecular genetics, and immunology-focused approaches, including studies on mice and mouse samples performed at biosafety level 2. There will also be some clerical and managerial activities. Occasionally, experimental protocols will require working in the evening or on weekends. The employee will be working closely with Dr. Ost, graduate students, and postdocs within the Ost laboratory.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform experiments in the laboratory that support various projects within the lab. Techniques will include culture and genetic manipulation of Candida albicans, Candida glabrata, and Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Assisting with mouse models of intestinal fungal colonization. Assisting with mouse models of inflammatory bowel disease.
  • Manage laboratory ordering.
  • Manage laboratory stocks and supplies, including making fungal media and cleaning and autoclaving glassware.
  • Create and update protocols.
  • Manage breeding colony and animal numbers.


Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Entry Level:

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.


Intermediate Level:

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or a related field.
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • One (1) year professional-level research experience.


Senior Level:

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or a related field.
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • Two (2) years of professional-level research experience.


Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with laboratory management, animal breeding and handling, working with Candida or Saccharomyces species, flow cytometry, molecular genetics.

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as:

Entry Level: $45,000 - $57,240

Intermediate Level: $48,970 - $62,290

Senior Level: $52,941 - $67,341

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
