Position Summary:
Under general guidance and with latitude for considerable judgment and initiative, the Lead Software Developer (LSD) oversees the Software Development Team. The LSD supervises all aspects of quality assurance, testing, standards and coding library maintenance related to software development. The LSD oversees custom-built and third-party software systems for Medical Education and Graduate Medical Education, supporting the continuum of medical education at the School of Medicine & Dentistry. The LSD supervises the implementation and support of URMC supported tools, such as UR Box.com, SharePoint, and REDCap as they support the mission of School of Medicine & Dentistry.

Responsibilities:
Bachelor's degree in related discipline such as Computer Science or Information Technology, plus 4-5 years related experience, or equivalent. Oral and written communication skills must be at the highest level.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree. Two to three years' experience in a supervisory capacity.

Pay Range
Pay Range: $ 65,000 - $135,000 Annually
The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:
- Directs design, maintenance, and testing of Medical School Software Suite
- This includes MedSIS, Encore Exams, Peer Assessment, and Orientation Software. Analyzes problems, follows program specifications, and develops or modifies programs with major emphasis on students. Maintenance and support of the Medical School and Medical School Admissions servers, processes and third party software, AMP. The LSD will play a critical role in Medical Student Orientation, helping with the onboarding process.
- Oversees the support, maintenance, and development of web sites
- This includes Medical Education, Financial Aid, Bursar's Office, Registrar's office, Curriculum Assessment and other public and internal web sites. Adding features and functionality to these web sites as necessary. Operation of Social Media platforms for the School of Medicine & Dentistry, including, Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus.
- Contributes to high-level strategic planning decisions, and executive teams
- Directs creation of applications that have applicable use in the School of Medicine & Dentistry based on needs assessments of the educational entities.
- Works with Senior Leadership within the School of Medicine & Dentistry to plan, forecast, and implement university-wide software in coordination with other Information Technology groups.
- Oversees documentation of systems and use guides, implementing Standard Operating Procedures where necessary.
- Works with Education entities to identify needs for software to facilitate optimal educational experience for all students.
- Participates in the development of strategic plans, ensures that managerial and senior staff are aware of IS/IT project impacts, alternatives, and implications. The LSD plays a leadership role in planning, policy making, development, and evaluation of services.
- The LSD also participates in interview panels, as requested.
- Works with Graduate Medical Education to develop systems and processes
- Meets with the Dean and Administrative Director for Graduate Medical Education (GME) on a monthly basis to discuss and plan projects to help move away from paper-based processes and work towards automation.
- Designs and develops best practice standards for Information Technology in GME, while working with all residencies and fellowships to help implement these policies.
- The LSD will play a role in resident and fellow onboarding, helping new residents and fellows acclimate to their respective programs and ensure they are made aware of the Information Technology polices and standards.
- The LSD will be an available IT resource for GME staff, resident and fellow program coordinators, as well as the chief residents and fellows.
- Updates job knowledge by studying state-of-the-art development tools, programming techniques, and computing equipment; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
- Keeps abreast of trends as they relate to the computer field by self-study, attending job-related seminars, courses, or conferences which enhance personal development and strengthen the user service function.
- The LSD will participate as an acting member of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). The LSD will stay up to date on medical school admissions processes through the AAMC. The LSD will also understand the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) processes through the AAMC. The LSD will provide a continuum of support for medical students, residents, and fellows based on the AAMC policies and procedures.
