The purpose of this classification, under general supervision, is maintaining and operating the wastewater facility meeting guidelines and standards set forth by the state and federal government. Employees in this classification perform skilled work. The position is responsible for collecting samples, monitoring, adjusting and maintaining plant equipment.

Drug Screening

NOTE: This position (CDL required, Leisure Services, and/or safety sensitive) requires a drug screen. If applicant did not receive drug screening upon initial hire with the City, applicant will be required to submit to drug screening prior to accepting this position.

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience -

High school diploma or GED; supplemented by vocational/technical training in wastewater treatment; and ability to access, retrieve and compile information using a computer and/or SCADA system.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Requires State of Florida Wastewater Treatment License Class "C". Requires possession of and the ability to maintain a valid State of Florida Driver's License. Shift work required.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Repairs plant equipment when needed or when assigned; performs preventative maintenance on all equipment, wastewater plants, and sewage lift stations.

Monitors plant including equipment such as meters and monitors via SCADA computer system.

Cleans and calibrates chemical analyzers.

Monitors chemicals and electrical rooms; observes for chemical leaks.

Conducts testing; analyzes lab reports to make plant adjustments.

Troubleshoots plant problems.

Complies with State safety rules, Human Resources, City, and division rules and regulations.

If necessary, purchases equipment and supplies.

Prepares work procedures for assigned tasks.

Maintains records; updates charts and logs.

Installs, repairs, and modifies electrical equipment systems; operates electrical generators and transformers.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

Maintains outside of plant such as landscaping, painting, and general housekeeping activities. Drives/operates backhoes, tractors, pick up and dump trucks. Performs other related duties as required.

ADA COMPLIANCE

Physical Ability: Tasks involve the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 50 pounds).

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds. The work performance of non-supervisory personnel of the City of Daytona Beach is routinely evaluated according to the performance criteria outlined herein:

Knowledge of Job: Has considerable knowledge of the methods, procedures and policies of the City of Daytona Beach as such pertain to the performance of the essential duties of Certified Wastewater Plant Operator. Has considerable knowledge of principles and practices of wastewater plant operations. Has considerable knowledge of the laws, ordinances, standards, and regulations pertaining to the essential duties and responsibilities of the position. Has considerable knowledge of the organization of the department, and of related departments and agencies. Clearly understands the occupational hazards and safety precautions required to perform the essential functions of the work. Has considerable knowledge of terminology and related professional languages used within the department as such pertain to work responsibilities. Knows how to maintain cooperative and effective relationships with intra- and interdepartmental personnel, as well as any external entities with which position interacts.

Quality of Work: Maintains high standards of accuracy in performing duties and responsibilities. Exercises immediate remedial action to correct any quality deficiencies that occur in areas of responsibility. Maintains quality communication and interaction with intra- and interdepartmental personnel, and any external entities with which position interacts.

Quantity of Work: Performs described Essential Functions and related assignments efficiently and effectively in a manner to produce a quantity of work which consistently meets established standards and expectations.
