The purpose of this classification, under general supervision, is to produce and provide potable water to the customers and residents of the City of Daytona Beach meeting guidelines and standards set forth by the local, state and federal government agencies. Employees in this classification perform skilled technical work. Position is responsible for collecting samples, monitoring, adjusting and maintaining plant equipment to meet standards. Performs related work as required.

Drug Screening

NOTE: This position (CDL required, Leisure Services, and/or safety sensitive) requires a drug screen. If applicant did not receive drug screening upon initial hire with the City, applicant will be required to submit to drug screening prior to accepting this position.

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience -

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or GED; supplemented by vocational/technical training in water treatment; supplemented by a minimum of one (1) year previous experience and/or training involving water treatment and/or construction experience; ability to access, retrieve and compile information using a computer and/or SCADA system.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Requires a State of Florida Class "C" Water Plant Operator License. Requires possession of and the ability to maintain a valid State of Florida driver's license.
  • TRAINEES: Trainees will be considered for applicants who have completed course work and successfully passed State of Florida Licensed Water Treatment Plant Operator Exam. Must possess State of Florida Water Treatment Plant Operators License, Class "C", within 12 months of hire or placement into position.
  • Hiring rate for trainees would be $701.37
Job Description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Collect samples from water treatment plant, well field and performs water tests and analyses as required.

Maintain and troubleshoot field equipment per manufactures standards; perform preventative and corrective maintenance on all equipment including telemetry equipment. Operate emergency generators as needed.

Monitor and troubleshoot production flow, system pressures and chemical feed equipment and maintain system via SCADA computer systems.

Conduct inspections and troubleshoot pumps, motors, chemical feed equipment, emergency power systems, and other equipment and systems.

Compiles plant data and transposes appropriate forms; designs forms for plant use.

Creates, updates, posts and logs work orders on database; maintains equipment records.

Files and logs customer complaints; dispatches crews to customer complaints.

Designs, maintains and installs inventory system.

Cleans plants and grounds.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS Maintains outside of plant such as landscaping, painting, and general housekeeping activities. Drives/operates backhoes, tractors, pick up and dump trucks. Performs other related duties as required.
